Bastian's P5 on a college budget

If you ever do head out this way, definitely let me know! It would be cool to get a little mini-meet going.

I wasn't really looking for a manual, it just popped up on craigslist for the right price, and I figured why not. Looking through it, it would've been very helpful in the past for a few things that left me scratching my head. (scratch) Too late now, as I just spent too much time figuring these things out myself lol

I love comparison pics

when I first got the car:

what color do you guys like best?

silver

white

black

White offers up the best contrast IMO. the black reminds me too much of your steelies- whether you want a different look for the summer perhaps might be a thought? Ain't no thang wrong with silver. Try that out first then you can experiment :) I'd plastidip them first to see how you like either cover. That way you can change if you dont like a color.

I have white wheels on my midnight blue and it looks great. Even though the wheels are kind of ugly and there is about 4 or 5 paint jobs on the wheels ($100 off craigslist). Silver on those wheels is just stock silver wheels, and black wheels have always bothered me because there is no contrast between the wheel and tire. So I vote for white.

Another vote for white! What is that sticker on the front of your car near the headlight?

Says "Boost loading" it was a gift from his lady :)

Sorry, I asked once before too! ;)

I was leaning towards white too :D

On a side note what license plate relocator did you use?

I used this one, from this seller:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-F...ccessories&hash=item337f74a221&vxp=mtr&_uhb=1

you'll either want to jack the front of your car up or put it on ramps if you want to install this thing in the same place I did.

yup that's it (2thumbs) lol my girlfriend bought it for me for my birthday, and I didn't want to confuse her trying to explain that my car's not turbocharged... so I just sucked it up and slapped it on (rolleyes)

so my group of friends has divided in two and we're having a bit of an ongoing car prank war... they got me today and I made my best sad face

that's right, wet toilet paper

but it's ok because immediately afterwards we found all of their cars and took pictures of them and put them up "for sale" at very reasonable prices on craigslist with their numbers, so they all got numerous texts about people wanting to buy their cars.

our next plan involves building a very large box around a mini cooper.... (shady)

Either that or move the mini to a different spot if its light enough? And box it up? Or try and find a few jackstands and colorfully painted donuts?

lol they weigh about 2500 pounds... it would probably take 10-15 guys to pick it up. right now we're just trying to source mini cooper-sized box building materials

Just testing... Lol.

The box idea sounds neat :) pics will be needed ;)

Im not too inventive when it comes to pranks... I should take a leaf from your guys' book!

Hey Bastian, I was looking at some of your pics from earlier on your thread and thought I saw some rust spots around the edges of the hood? my car has the same problem and was wondering if that was pretty common. Also, was the sickspeed horns an easy mod?

yeah there's some bubbling rust in the driver's side front corner of the hood. I'm hoping to get that fixed come spring... and to be honest, almost every P5 I've seen parked around my town (all three other P5's - lol) have rust in the same spot. The few P5's that are in my town are all driven by the elderly... lol

The sickspeed horns are fairly easy. The wiring itself isn't hard at all, if you look earlier I'm pretty sure there's info on it. Also this thread I had on it:
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123809820-Hellahorn-vs-Sickspeed-horns

Only weird part is you have to cut the plastic trays on the top of the grill out to make room for the horns. At least, if you install them the way I did.

also, kingofspades, we were considering jacking up the front of one of their cars, taking the wheels off, and leaving it on blocks with the wheels next to it. Thing is, they're girls, and just would never have figured it out lol

So far we've done the classic saran wrap, put peanut butter under door handles, used glass markers to make windows opaque, and pretended to sell their cars (lol2)

Dang, thats a good prank war you got going on :) other than the toilet paper, have they gotten you in any other way??

Ill add to what you said to Knubel by saying im in the same boat with the rust. It sucks but I can't do anything about. Mines rotted all the way through the drivers side :/ at least im not the only one...

Well it's just my buddy and I together against five girls hahah
so far they've only put a s*** load of tinsel on my friends car, (which just blew in to the neighbors yard overnight and caused a huge mess) and TP'd my car

This is for all of you have rust issues. Figured since getting it fixed tends to be pricey, maybe some of you would like to take on the task of repairing the rusted areas yourself. Check out this link: http://www.doityourself.com/stry/smallrustspotscar#.UQzt4GdME94

Hope that helps. You'll probably save a good amount of money doing it yourself, too...just sayin...and for those that take it on, good luck and post the resulting images (if not a variety of photos during the whole process)
