I'm sure this is hidden some where in the forum but I don't like the forum's search engine.

1 Open your remote.

2 Push the unlock button to remove the rubber and circuit board.

3 CAREFULLY use a sharp blade to cut the little rubber nib in the center of the back of the panic button. Don't remove the four dots around it.

4 Put it back together. The word lock is on the same end as the word battery.

Your done.

My car didn't come with any remote's and my Mazda dealer wanted $185 (each) but I found one at the junker for $10

............or you can do this.......get a switchblade fob and remove the panic button from the skin instead of drilling the fob for it.

idk why you'd want to kill your panic button. I've only accidentally hit mine once within the 3 years i've had my car lol

I set mine off by accident the first day I got it.

Just press the lock button twice for a beep.

I wouldn't on the original fob but if doing the sw blade you have the option. I did it because I had an extra original fob and extra sw blade shell. On the sw blade with the panic, it stuck out more and was easier to hit by accident because of the shape of the shell. So I did one without the panic. The sw blade is just for fun tho as I don't attach house keys and such to it. Still use the regular fob with panic and keys for the most part.

I just meant that water can splash into your electronics.

My method gives you a full factory seal.

I'll post a few pictures when I get a better camera.

I'm here to answer my own question because I couldn't find my original thread.

(thanks again to this search engine)

We're not allowed to see the schematics for the security system other wise we would all be stealing each others cars.

The part where the key folds is not open to the circuit board. The hole in the membrane where the panic button was removed is covered by the shell (the one in the pics without the panic hole) There are no exposed or open areas of the 2 button sw blade. The other one with the panic hole drilled out was never used with panic button removed.

Where can I get one of these switch blade fob, and does the original internals fit perfectly in this one

The internals do fit perfectly either way whether you drill the hole for panic or remove the membrane and go without panic. Been awhile since I got these and not real sure if they are still available. Got one from a group buy thing and another straight from some funky middle east sounding site. Leeme see if I can scrounge up any useful info. There are also some others where the key comes out 90 degrees from this one and looks like it just tucks into the side but the ones I have, the key tucks into fob just like a knife blade does into a pocket knife. And I had dealer cut the key free using VIN.

This is the othe type one I was talking about, currently on ebay. Says for 323, Familia & Etude & looks like it fits our internals if removing panic, doesn't look like there's room to drill hole for it............

And here's that other site - alibaba dot com. I put in mazda 2 button remote and here's what they have. Pay attention to the shape of the holes. Looks like there may be a couple of options. I didn't scan thru all of them. They may still have the ones like mine. Good luck............

I noticed that I never posted a pic of my original mod. (It's really easy if all you want is to kill the panic button,... it's free too.):

I'm off topic again but it's my thread so I figured it's OK,....

I wanted to take better close up pictures with my 3 meg cell phone camera with no macro,.... So I googled macro lenses and found this idea,...

I went to my local dollar store and bought this for three bucks:

I removed the lens from inside the camera:

I placed the lens over the camera's lens,.. now I can do this:

The best I could do before the lens was this:

(I set my phone on a magnifying glass for my earlier pictures)
