Akuma HT65 Stage 2 Turbo upgrade!

Next dyno day is set for October 13th at RT Tuning as there is a meet there.

Car is now running 3.5" JBR intake, e85, 25 PSI, and 6 puck race clutch.

Will post up results when dyno is complete. VD states car is making 365/410

So, this turbo really doesn't do much more than a stock k04 will? I think I met you the day you put down 321.

You met me at the r/t tuning meet nator meet. Car put down 343/375 on their dyno with e85.

The car puts down more power than a stock turbo running the same mods, unless they juice it up and go e85. At the most recent meet at moore automotive in VA. my previous dyno there was 321/366 there with 22 psi, cpe cai, and stock cat back. Then we moved boost to 25psi added jbr 3.5" intake and corksport cat back ended up increasing power by 13HP and 25TQ for the end totals of 334/391. Stock turbo's were only putting down 296-304 HP and 330's tq.

Also if you look at my dyno graphs compared to stock turbos mine holds the horsepower pretty much until redline where a stocker will fall off at 5500ish. So even though it will show peak numbers the same to a e85 stock k04 mine will still hold the power longer no matter what. Still not saying it's a good turbo but I will still out run a stock turbo with no problem. lol.

In comparison to cost vs value to the BNR S3?

Personally I feel as there is no comparison between the BNR and FP. stock turbo < HT65 < BNR s3 < GT30 series.

1)BNR will out perform the HT65 in the horsepower department but the FP will put down more tq. It is a tradeoff.

2)When I got my FP turbo it was extremely cheap since I was the tester. It was supposed to come out a lot cheaper than what it is marketed for now (around $700) but somehow the prices changed. Go figure.

3)There is still an issue with the seals on the FP. Lets just say my lasted 2 years and 40K miles. Right after the dyno day in VA. The car has been pushing a nice blue smoke from the exhaust. Called up FP and they blamed it on my car instead of the turbo even though I talked about it to them once before. so... I purchased a BNR S3. Also I liked that the S3 came with a warranty. Personally we have come a long way in tuning in 2 years especially with e85. When I got my turbo it was the only choice between stock and big turbo. Now the stock turbo tuning as caught up with the HT, it is probably not worth it especially when the s3/gtx2867/gtx3071 is out there for the taking. Only requiring minimal custom work to make that fit.

Not to sound stupid, but when you say you need a "tune," what exactly is being done? Do you need to purchase a CobbPort? More parts? What? Thanks!

You will need an Accessport and a custom tune. Basically you can have a completely stock car and put this turbo in but it will need a tune to run correctly.

wrong. Have you seen some of the torque numbers the S3 is making over on msf?

besides, if you're honest, all torque does is spin the tires. midrange torque on fwd does nothing to help. What you want is the horsepower. This is why hondas with little to no torque are still so fast.

@dcomiskey really? Been here since 2006 and you haven't read anything about needing a tune before?

I could easily make over 400 tq on the FP but no built motor so no real reason. My tq doesn't hit full on until about 4200rpm. The horsepower is what I want as well. Hence why I bought the s3 and I'm sending he HT to Bryan at BNR for his to dismantle. lol

I certainly have, but a) I'm here very sporadically and b) haven't spent much time looking at what goes into a turbo upgrade. Just wanted clarification since I've been sort of pining over a BNR upgrade lately, but the $900 price doesn't include an additional $1,000 in tuning costs...

Well said. Huge torque down low is just tire shredding stupidity on a fwd platform. Put that torque at higher rpm and it translates into great hp. And as long as you have a relatively flat torque curve across the rpm range for each gear (we have six speed transmissions, so upshifts result in rpm falling back only about 1000 rpm) then it's the top end where the usable power gets made.

The data over on msf on the power that turbo is making when tuned properly is simply amazing. If I ever go big turbo and want to keep things relatively simple otherwise and avoid having to fabricate things the BNR stage 3 would be the answer, hands down.

It has arrived!
