The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

How's it going Jeff?

Things are going pretty good. Inherited Kaila's ipod touch since she has the iphone now. :) Now to ask Santa for a new car stereo with usb/aux jacks. Going to get admitted to an insane asylum if I don't get this suspension noise figured out. lol How are things with you?

Everyone knows everything taste better on a cracker.

Not much, diapers as always. Hows PA?

lmao...thanks Nate.....never heard that one before.

Ah yes, I remember those days and long for them back. How is the fam doing? Tamz just texted me that Kaila wants to get her ear pierced tonight....now she already has three holes in each ear (nothing funky, just regular piercings) and I think wants to get her cartilage pierced? Um...ow!!! It's another dreary, damp day as well. Haven't really minded the drop in temps so much but it would be nice to see the sun for a little bit.

the actual piercing of the cartilage didnt hurt, it wasnt until a couple hours after it was done that it started to hurt when i had mine done haha

Really? Either way...eff that $hit! lol Looks like plans have changed though...she's supposed to be going to see Taken2 with friends.

Team Sahken has their DP cars! Will contact Will Nonnamaker to see when we can schedule this years tour. I will also see when they'll be testing at Mid-Ohio

Thanks to Marc I've pretty much done everything to the Sonata, brake lines are done and the flex pipe is in place. While doing that, found out that the driver side rotor was completely rusted, so I ended up replacing the rotors and pads. If anyone is interested in a 3 piece rotor you're welcome to it

Also, Marc confirmed that all the rust on the sub frame is not good, so I don't feel very good keeping it for the long run. I've done some searching so I might trade it in for something else.

that's kinda crazy but I'm sure you'll still come out ahead

What made you decide skyactive since it's almost the same price as a speed? need for mpg's?

Basically, but how is a speed almost the same price? With the s plan, Mazda loyalty and other cash off the skyactiv will be around 19000. Plus, I can get .9% financing. Not sure all the incentives will work on a ms3, but I know the .9% doesn't apply. So, being generous and getting the ms3 down to 22000, it is still 3k more.

Fuel economy is the big hit. People are averaging 23 mpg at best with speeds. 33-34 its the average for the skyactiv. For the miles I put on, and bring premium fuel vs regular, it would be around $900-$1000 more in gas per year with the speed. Not to mention insurance, it its just too much penalty for not enough gain. I drove a speed and I did love the boost, but the skyactiv had plenty on get up for me. Probably helps that the manual sky hatch is 385lbs lighter than the speed according to the Mazda website.

I was looking at the focus st to help with the mpg problems...but my guy at the Mazda dealer has just gone so far for me again, and the 3 has more rear room for kid seats.

Congrats on getting her up and running, Peaches! And high five to Marc for helping and letting you use his workspace.

not sure what the s plan is, In checking local dealerships (all 2012 models) here to get a manual skyactiv you basically have to order from Mazda, speeds you can find. Speeds are going for below sticker and with out the tech package for around $21k, about $2500 below sticker. I found a used 2010 with under 20k miles for $18k. Skyactiv hatches are around $20k and they haven't wiggled much from the sticker because of the mpg's. So price it's pretty close, $1500 if you add in the loyalty before all the fun of financing.

The rest is all about mpg's and the related so that really answers my question. I'm not in any way bashing your decision, I'm deciding between keeping my MSP and building it up (most likely) or possibly getting a Skyactiv 3 or Speed3. The new 6 will most likely be out of my price range.

Do you have to have a new car? Why not pick up a used 1st gen 6 (really have come down these days), or used 2nd gen (6speed manual 4 banger ftw).

Not a fan of the second gen, space isn't the issue so jumping up to a 6 isn't a must. I just love the way the new 6 looks and like the mpg's of the new skyactiv engines. That being said, a 1st gen speed6 since would be nice but finding on with low miles is tough and cost almost as much as a 2nd gen speed3 with half the miles. And manual 6 wagons that aren't trashed are also hard to come by

I know someone who has one. :D

I was actually surprised at how many manual wagons showed up in my searches. I was searching the entire east coast though...lol
