CorkSport Mazda 2 Front Sway Bar Now Available!

Did the oversteer surprise you at all? The first time I had the shop 2 on an autocross course with the front bar added I got caught out and spun the car from the oversteer the front bar added when combined with our rear torsion bar.

A little, but only in the sense that when grip started to go I thought "Hey, whats this....oversteer? I could get used to this!" I've noticed in the past a mod that feels great on most roads will feel completely different on an auto-x course. I'm definately looking forward to the next event I can make it out to. Hopefully I won't have to wait until next season.

Oversteer from the front bar? Was it just that the car's response to inputs was just quicker? (Not as soft or sluggish as a stock set-up).

Turn-in response is quicker, yes. I think the oversteer is coming from increased grip on the front end. If there is less dynamic camber loss in cornering, the front tires will be able to hold on better and thus the rears will give up first.

Such is typically the case with the macpherson suspension design up front. It certainly works very well on subarus, though the result is more of an increase in cornering speeds rather than oversteer (unless the rear end is stiffened up as well).

The CS sway bars work a lot different than I expected -- when I first only put on the rear bar I thought I would get oversteer, but it actually increased understeer. So I added the front bar and that brought it back into balance and some for me -- no more understeer. I haven't driven hard enough on the street to experience oversteer though, lol -- hopefully in the next month on the auto-x course.

Surprisingly, I had a different experience this weekend. I ended having to add about 6 psi in the rear to help loosen it up a bit. I'm not running much front camber though, which is certainly hurting me a bit. Once I get some eccentric bolts in I'm going to try and get about 2 degrees, though it's going to be quite awhile now before the next event.

That 2 degrees of camber makes a huge difference with the turn in. I wish we could get away with more in the B-Spec class.

I used to run much more agressive settings, but since I don't get out to many events, 2 will be just fine. I may decide to go as high as 2.5, but I think when I go higher than that I start to get uneven wear if the car is daily driven.
