Ebay Turbo Kit

If ebay were to ever sponsor you I wouldn't ask for an Ebay Turbo Kit unless it was a name brand like Garrett or the others........ They got money....

my friend decided to waste money and have some fun, got one of these ebay turbo kits, we put it on one of his honda, and suprisingly this is running pretty good. I wonder how long it gona last.

I wonder how much it's gonna cost him when the turbo lets go and throws metal shards through all the parts under the hood

ive heard rumors that some ebay kits internal fans when heated expand and become larger and hit the inner wall of the turbine causing them to brake off and suck into your engine

They don't actually do that. Those shards end up inside your engine...

I guess it depends on the failure you're referring to, I mean when it self destructs and the case doesn't hold up and explodes out instead of containing it like it should in a decent turbo lol

Bought a Turbo that claimed it was a Godspeed T3/T4 from ebay like 3 years ago and it was only like 120.00 although it wasnt a kit I will tell you this, be prepaired to get what you pay for. I put this on my 07 Cobalt and it wouldnt even spool up. Everything worked just fine and was hooked up perfect but for whatever reason the turbo wouldnt spool. Really weird I thought, then again I am at basic level on turbo stuff so maybe it was me but unlikely. Good parts good results, Cheap parts.........well you get the Idea

did you get it balanced when you received it? there's many threads online stating that china-chargers need to at least be balanced before they can be installed in order to work properly

No didnt have it balanced was unaware of that. And the turbo wasnt to big fo what I was running. I researched the car back in 2004 before it came out in 2005 and bought an 05 with an extra motor and trans and built the motor by the book to handle what I was doing. just for what ever reason you could stomp the throttle and the turbine would barely move. No play in the bearings either so Like I said it was real weird. had a tiny bit of oil bypass but nothing more than normal.

Still though when I build My P5 up I am definately spending the right money in the right places. Still gotta step up my turbo knowledge a bit more but I have came along way since 2005.

I knew little about turbos till I bought my 323 now I know enough to know I need to get something else to dd.

But for real a t3 t4 is entirely too big, my brother runs an eBay t3 on his Honda and with 10:1 compression it don't build boost till 4500 rpms. For some insight a gt2871 can handle 350 whp which is more than enough for a street driven fwd. In the last 2 years Godspeed has stepped it up a lot, I'll be using their t28 soon

I'm torn.....

I see this thread and have 2 reactions. I'm skeptic of spending little money and expecting alot of performance out of the box, but I'm also excited to finish my turbo setup I bought from ebay (just need Megasquirt, meth kit, and a few other odds and in's). Being that my build is somewhat different than the normal P5's, I'm relegated to paying attention to all the threads on (insert KL fanpage here) and where they got their snail kits for their 2.5's from. Ebay is a solid example of getting the most bang for your buck (could be a bad pun) - just do your homework folks! Call the place, ask about the warranty, see something in writing, look at reviews (google gives 1000's immediately upon search).

I'm not one of those guys that thinks "Mine cost more....so it's better". That's just an untruth most the time, and left to personal opinion. Plenty of things are cheaper on Ebay - and get the job done without hesitation. Will they bolt right on or have a certain tag, color, or insignia that make them part of the "status-quo".....probably not. But if it's a sticker you wanted in the first place - I'll get you the damn sticker and give me the extra dough....

The eBay turbos are just journal/ wet float bearings and can be made cheaply now but it's how older turbos ( dsm 323 Silvia, etc) used to be made. The name brands are ball bearing which last a little longer and are better suited to everyday drivers that rarely let the car cool down or warm up, journal/ wet floats won't hold up to that for long.

The seals also aren't the best and don't always last for long 5-15k If you don't use a oil Restrictor for some of the cheapest ones. But you can get rebuild kits with better stuff for 100-200 where the Garret's you have to replace the center cartridge which is 600+ but if taken care of can last 150k miles. Figure 10 rebuilds on eBay would be around 1000-1500 at 150k miles~, or at 150k miles and rebuild on a garret your looking at 2k+

Its good to hear that the Godspeed stuff has picked up a bit. I contacted the guy after I had issues and he almost denied that the turbo was his. Either way I am working on a new engine now and I admit like I said before I knew little about turbos when I purchased it. So I just kept rolling with it and built the motor around the turbo. And yes that is stupid but at the time I had money coming out of my ears but was a cheap builder and as most anyone likes to save money. Figured big turbo BIG POWER, little did I know at the time you need big power to turn big turbo to make BIG POWER. Always been a N/A guy but this newer computer stuff and watching the Cobalt be able to push upwards of 1400hp made me want to get into the Forced induction stuff. Now am trying my luck on imports with proper knowledge on the topic. Knowledge is power and very important here so as to not watch your head go through the hood of the car.

Good point on the whole rebuild thing though. I guess it all to each his own. I did notice the obvious pricing difference. I have a huge issue with having to test everything and see what I can build on my own. Metal is in my blood. I am working on a modified intake for my P5. I am getting of topic.
