Looking for a set of OEM MSP springs, in good condition. Let me know what you're looking to get for them.
May be interested in some Tein or other's if you've got a good deal on them.

You may already know this but OEM MSP springs are a bit shorter than many aftermarket springs due to the OEM MSP struts having a higher spring purch on the rear strut. If OEM MSP springs are installed on a standard protege/5 without the proper MSP strut it will cause the rear of the vehicle to be lower than the front of the vehicle.

So due to that you may want to stick with Non OEM (Racing Beat etc) springs due to the slightly longer spring and ability to use many aftermarket struts.

Keep in mind if you are planning on upgrading your sway bar it is recommended that the sway bar link mount on the strut be reinforced due to the addition stress put on the mount by the sway bar. It is recommended to purchase struts with a reinforced mount (tokico hp). OEM MSP Struts have this reinforced mount also.

If you want that pure MSP suspension then OEM MSP Springs and OEM MSP Struts are what you want but it will cost ya a bit.

MS Retuned Strut Kit - Mazda Part #0000-8M-C14
I believe the kit comes with bump stops so that will save you a few dollars. I am sure you could find these cheaper but here you go:

Struts
Picture
OnlineMazdaParts.com Part #0000-8M-C14 $531.77

Springs
OnlineMazdaParts.com Part #0000-8M-C13 $280.29

If you are looking for True Racing Beat springs you could check out Racing Beats Site:

Racing Beat Part #74080

Price $210 + shipping.

The best price I found on the springs is $195 at ProtegeGarage.com due to them having free shipping.. they are drop shipped directly from Racing Beat.

ProtegeGarage.com RB Springs

It is recommeded that you use shorter bump stops when using lowering springs:

Racing Beat Part #74012 $11.01ea
OnlineMazdaParts.com Part #BN7H-34-111 $8.59ea

Another thing is the RB and OEM MSP springs will only lower the car about 3/4 of an inch. That may not be low enough for the look your going for. You may want to look into other brands of springs (Tien, Espilers, etc) for something that will lower the car even more

These are not Racing Beat springs but I do have a set of OEM MSP Springs new in the box. $75.00 shipped to SC. You will want to match them up with OEM MSP Struts.

Part Numbers:

Mazdaspeed Spring kit #0000-8M-C13

Rear Springs #BP7H-28-011
Front Springs #BP7H-34-011

OnlineMazdaParts.com Part #0000-8M-C13 $280.29

Thanks for the info! Were the OEM MSP springs not made by RB though? I know there is a difference between the aftermarket RBs and the OEM MSP springs but I thought the entire MP3/MSP suspension was Racing Beat (aside from the Tokico's of course).
Tokico Blues are in the future plans once I have funds, but would the OEM springs still be lower in the back if I get different aftermarket struts? I was thinking Staggs as they seem to be pretty good bang-for-the-buck. I am actually getting an MSP rear sway bar and my struts are long gone as is so they have to be replaced anyway.

@msp14: Do the springs have any sag?

No they didn't when I took them off my car, I went with eiboch pro kit so I just have these sitting in my garage

Racing Beat helped in the development of the suspension but the actual product is made by Mazda. Even the MSP sway bar that says Racing Beat was made by Mazda suppliers. Mazda just put the Racing Beat name on it.

Quote from Racing Beat website talking about the sway bar bushings:

RacingBeat.com said:
These bushings are the current bushings that Mazda offers for use on the Protege MP3 and Protege MazdaSpeed models. We've received many calls and messages over the years regarding noise that is assumed to be related to the rear sway bar on these vehicles. While Mazda was nice enough to place the Racing Beat logo on each sway bar on these vehicles, although Racing Beat undertook the original research and design of the suspension components, Mazda used their own suppliers for the production of the components included on the vehicle - these are not Racing Beat produced sway bars or bushings.

You may also read on RacingBeats site that RacingBeat actually wanted to use Koni struts.

Using any aftermarket strut with OEM MSP Springs will result in rear "sag". You will want aftermarket struts and aftermarket springs.

  • If you try and use aftermarket springs with Tokico Blues (OEM MSP Strut) then you will have a higher backend due to the raised purch on the strut.
  • If you try and use aftermarket struts with OEM MSP Springs you will have a lower rearend due to the shorter rear spring.

Just for reference the OEM MSP front spring is actually slightly taller than the aftermarket RB spring and the purch on either front struts will be the same. It is the rear that is the real difference.

Ah, well that's good to know. So then Tokico Blues (say, used off of an MP3/MSP) would thus be different (perch-wise) than buying new Tokico HPs? Would that not be an issue for MP3/MSP owners needing to replace struts but not wanting to change springs?

Yep. The stock MP3/MSP are equipped with Tokico Blues which are the higher perched strut. Tokico HP (which are blue too) have the same level perch as the DX, LX, and ES Strut.

Would that not be an issue for MP3/MSP owners needing to replace struts but not wanting to change springs?

Yes again. Not only do they have to deal with the spring perch issue but they have to deal with the reinforced end link mount.

It is the sway bar that decides the size/strength of the end link. In this case, due to the size of the MP3/MSP sway bar, it would also decide the strut end link mount strength.

If you use a stock ES sway bar you would not need to worry so much about the end link mounts on the struts. As the standard strut mounts will be ok.

Also, more pressure is placed on the rear cross member with the bigger sway bar than with the smaller ES stock bar. The MP3/MSP uses a cross member that has had the sway bar mounting holes reinforced. So that may be an issue when mounting the sway bar. You may have to deal with the mounting holes and the clunk if you try to mount that sway bar on the cross member you have. Maybe grab the MP3/MSP cross member if you can or some clunk fix brackets are in your future which would allow you to mount the bar without having to change the rear cross member.

Yea, I'm picking up an MSP rear sway bar soon and will be getting the clunk fix, figured I would do struts and springs while I was at it but it looks like I'm on the lookout for something other than OEM MSPs now.
