well the audio unit is under recall ..in cold climates they malfunction and the display doesnt show it still works just doesnt always display whats on etc..i didnt even notice until they[west coast mazda] called me to book an appointment..gotta love a dealer that fixes stuff you dont even know is broken lol

Hi,

Mine was replaced about a year ago. Apparently it wouldn't work under something like 14 degrees F. Pretty damn cold. Only had it happen once and that was enough...... LOL

New unit worked as well as the original which is pretty good. For an OEM radio/CD player, it seems really good. Wide tonal (frequency) range. It actually has bass and is musical. Much nicer unit than in my wife's Honda Fit which is really blahhhhhhh. (Flat sounding. No bass just mid-range)

Honestly the recall is there since last winter. Here in Quebec it is not rare to have -30 Celsius night. The problem was that at very low temparature the head unit would take like 2-3 minutes to start...Well the unit was open but no music would play at the speakers and the display wass laggy.

Sorry for my english it's quite hard for me to explain that to you.

they also dont display the time or songs while playing..there is more than one syptom but in end the audio unit gets replaced and yes the recall is from the beginning of the year but i only got the call about a month ago..we only get down to about -13 and only for a short period of time usually late jan early feb ..

Yeah you're right. Anyway I have my Pionner AVH-1400dvd head unit in now so no more problem :)

The mazda tech broke my antenna wire when changing the old factory hu to the recall one... Hope they don't do that with yours

This is just for early 2011 models, right? Mine was one of the last 2011's and I think they had already fixed the problem before I bought the car but I could be wrong.

I'm ok with the factory radio, I just wish it had USB or satellite radio...and maybe show the clock and the track names at the same time...lol

The stock radio is better than the one in my girlfriend's Fiesta Sedan.. Well Both are kinda cheap lol
