Need Advice Quick! Loud clunk/bang noise coming from rear with Ksports.

So my problem is that I'm hearing a loud banging/clunking noise from my ksports when I go over bumps. Now with how low I was in the rear, even at its highest point with a.. around 1-1.25" gap from rear fender to tire, I still heard that loud clunking/banging noise. It didn't happen when I first installed them, only when I changed my height, and ever since then, every time I adjust height (cause I was thinking I was bottoming out), I still hear it.

So, could it be that the shocks are bottoming out in the rear? Something's loose? Anyone have any insight? I even compared the amount of threads left between mine, and Font Motorsports shock threading, and he has less threads showing (technically lower) yet I still have that clunking/banging noise. These are brand f****** new, I don't want this crap starting already.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The suspension has to settle. Or you installed them incorrect . I had that noise. For the first week or so.and I am much lower than that.

crg have u reverse the perch yet? cause last time i talked to u, u had mentioned the perch was on top isntead of being onthe bottom. also did u use the the rubber piece on top spring and bottom piece of the perch.

Really? I'm just kind of nervous cause iunno what it is exactly, and I don't want anything to blow. What's your rear springs set at? Preload wise? s***, I even heard the noise going like 20 km/h over small cracks in the road

I tried it both ways, and still I hear the noise. And yeah, still have both pieces on the perches

what noise are u talking about excatly? is it something crackling or everytime u hit a bump u hear a hard noise? if its a bump stiffen the strut a lil bit more maybe u have it all the way to the left which is too soft.

It's a loud, solid bang. What I think it is now, is that its the coils on the spring that are hitting each other. I'm on the softest pre-load setting on the rear springs, yet they bang. Has no one else had this problem? I think I need a taller, stiffer spring.

My Ksport's are louder than the OEM setup, but no bang like you said.

Can you post a picture of your rear suspension? I read your posts and I really think you did something wrong when installing the coilovers.

Just saw this post now. I've contacted Ksport to find out what might be causing this issue. Is it still an issue CRG Racer24?

.
Ok, got an answer from Ksport.

You have to make sure that after you adjust height in the rear that you reset the shock length. Remember 1/3 of the shock compressed with the car on the ground.

Below are the official Procedure for Setting Shock Stroke from Ksport. You have to make sure you do this procedure as it will cause issues that are not covered by the warranty if you do not. So make sure you do this if you haven't already. :)

What Rodrigo said.

When you lower the perch height w/o shortening the shock length, the spring comes unseated over bumps. This is especially true when the shock is set at a soft damping setting. At some point thereafter, the spring finds the seat and plops down onto it with a clunk sound.

good job guys. i've been scrutinizing all suspension setups looking at what to go with, and i came across this stalled thread so i was wondering what the outcome was... operator error it seems. good to know it was nothing major. I'm saving up for this kit as its the front runner right now.

Glad to help out. :)

When I took out my spring perches, and did not adjust shock length from when I was getting the banging sound, the noise went away.. just so everyone knows.

Makes sense. The noise comes from the spring unseating/re-seating itself on the perch. Without the perch, it sits easily on the OE mount and doesn't "slip-crunch".

It is still advisable to adjust the shock body length so that the spring stays seated. Might not make noise, but does have the potential rub things.

Again, good to know as well. I'll take a look sometime soon when I actually have time to myself.
