What is an appropriate short hand or abbreviation for "Mazda 5"?

Fun topic since there are a few different abbreviations used for the Mazda 5. Since this is THE Mazda 5 forum, let's come to a consensus on a standard .

Some that I've seen but there maybe be others.

Mz5
MZ5

I vote for Mz5. Just using the number can be confusing and M5 should be reserved for the real M5.

I posted in another forum with some questions about used-car buying etc, and I mentioned Mazda5. After "Mazda5" for a few times, I shorthanded to just "M5" in my posts. Didn't take long for a few ppl to go off track and start commenting about the Bimmer M5....

I vote for MZ5 partly because I use it- but only started doing that because I saw the 3 fellas writing MZ3 for Mazda 3 and MS3 for Mazdaspeed 3. If you start using "M5" you're going to confuse the hell out of search engines for people looking for BMW information. 5 on its own could also get mixed up with abbreviations for MX5 (Miata ish) since it would be contained in too many other things- plus search engines don't like single character terms.

Oh, to me Mz5 and MZ5 would pretty much be the same- it's really the letters that matter, not the capitalization.

This kinda brings out the fact that the make and model names are weird to begin with. When you shop for parts you'll see: Make-Mazda/Model-5, Make-Mazda/Model-Mazda 5, etc. It just bugs me to see Mazda Mazda5. That's the real name, but it's just silly looking in my opinion.

I completely agree. Searching online is frustrating when things come back as MX-5 or the search engine doesn't find many tags using Mazda5 (with no spaces).

I know this is purely technicalities but I prefer the lower case ‘z’ b/c I see it as one word whereas the MS hold significantly more weight. They both work for me. I just think the ‘5’ alone or ‘M5’ is confusing. I would really prefer M5 if BMW haven’t’ already taken it. Btw, anyone else notice Mazda’s naming is eerily similar to BMW and generally perceived as the poor man’s BMW! Coincidence?

I hate models that has an alphanumeric name but it’s getting harder and harder to get away from it. The idea is that it requires YOU, the consumer, to say the name of the manufacturer to identify the model. This builds brand awareness and value recognition instead of consumers identifying and building a relation to the model itself. Alphanumeric names don't create the same sentimental relationship as an actual name (granted a good name) could/would. Some manufactueres look at this as glass half full but Mazda looks at it as half empty. The Miata world was up in arms when Mazda try to REMOVE the Miata name in the NC and replace it solely with MX-5, which is known all over the world, except here. Mazda conceded with “MX-5 Miata” – LOL but I will only know it as a Miata. The Mazda 5 is really just a 5 but you can’t call it that

Totally understand and agree, I just think it'll be hard to lock forum-goers into one convention over the other, especially considering how few forum denizens actually capitalize properly, much less type using proper grammar...

I add to the confusion because I run a BMW M5 badge on my hatch

as for the search engine confusion, ebay has no confusion with it whatsoever. if you search 'mazda5', it will also show you results for 'mazda 5'.
they also just refer to the numbered models in the drop down list by number only, they don't call it a 'Mazda Mazda5'.
I don't like the premacy name either; JDM names always strike me as odd, like calling the Nissan Z cars 'ladybird' or whatever they call them.

Totally agree with you on not using the Premacy name- this IS a US based forum after all. My main concern with using the M5 designator even if this is only a Mazda forum is all the search engines that crawl through forums just like this one. You don't want people to have to sift through search results that cover both the M5 and the Mazda 5. That gets confusing.

And sorry, but running a BMW M5 badge on the hatch of your 5 is kind of like someone sticking a GTR badge on a Pontiac Sunfire. Yes, I've seen it.
