$#(*&! Coupler

ok so heres the story. I have a coupler that keeps popping off and its driving me nuts. The pipes its connecting are the only ones that arent beaded because i had to cut my IC pipe. After installing GT28rs the perrin tubing was about an inch too short so i bought a coupler thats 3 inches in length, cut the tube and just extended it 1 inch with the coupler. So that leaves only an inch of pipe on each side to grip plus the fact its not beaded. Ive tried clamping it down as much as possible i even bent the tube a bit (i bent it back though) and it keeps popping off. the side that popped off last was the side that wasnt bent so that didnt do it. Ive also tried hair spray but to no avail. my next step is to use gorilla glue, either give me one good reason why i should, or why i shouldnt (then give me something else i could use) the only reason not i could think of would be if the glue ate away at the silicone coupler. HELP!!

You can make a bead using a crimping tool... there's a how-to somewhere. My hot pipes have a few joints without beads... Hairspray one time and it will be sticky for years... 25+psi

i already said above that i tried hairspray (it was good s*** too, it was my moms HAHA!), apparently 15 lbs on gt28rs is enough to pop it, but 25+ psi on a gt30 is weeeaaakkkkkk HAHA JK!!

p.s. im 21 and home for summer, thats why i live with my mom. lol. i had to clarify that.

p.p.s. i have suspicion that it may be due to faulty hose clamp. as i tightened it this morning before heading to work it got to a point where it kept loosening everytime i tightened it, so i ran back inside and got another clamp. most i boosted today though was like 4psi so i havent tested it yet, but once im only about a mile away from home you know ill be rippin up to 15psi, lol.

also one more question, popping a coupler can cause the oil in the turbo to pass by the seals, correct?

anyone know if using this would solve my problem? i could make the coupler 4.5-5 inches long thus increasing the surface area of the coupler on the pipe, thus generating more friction, thus causing it to stay on better?

a longer coupler will help. t-bolt clamps will also help with the clamping force.

got a picture of what you are trying to connect? i think i have an idea, but i'm having a hard time picturing it.

also, it sounds like its not the coupler's fault, but your for cutting the duct bead.

I've been through many clamps trying to get that last little bit out of them... switch to T-bolt clamps never a problem again. Everyone has done their share of blowing pipes... I could see the sudden loss of resistance not being good but haven't heard of it causing a turbo seal to go out??

What about getting a pipe that will be closer to the other pipe? Could you get us pics?

As stated before Tbolt clamps do wonders. You can pick them up at Napa for dirt cheap.

Did you let the hairspray dry before running the car?

i use to pop couplers so what i did is created a lip by useing pliers and bending the edges up all around the pipe problem solved for me..

the seals arent bad, ive just noticed that when i blow a coupler i notice oil in the IC pipes, but if i check after a while of having no coupler pops i have bone dry IC pipes

yeah i let it dry overnight. ill get pics. i actually have a pic somewhere on FB of my engine bay before the gt28rs so i can take that and draw what i have since im at work at the moment.

here is my example. its on a straight piece of pipe. had to cut it and extend roughly 1 inch. ill definitely take a look into t bolt clamps. i have a bunch of them on other IC pipe couplers, and i was originally thinking of just swapping them with the cheap hardware store clamps i have on there now since this is the only spot thats not beaded.
