My vote goes to brass. It's heavier, less resistant to chemicals, cheape, stronger when threaded.
Nickel coated brass or powder coat would nice.

i absolutely HATE the smell of brass on my palms, so spun aluminum shift knob with "mazdaspeed" engraving for me (preferably under $35).

perhaps some other members besides myself would also be interested in benen or datum1 type rear tow hooks made specifically to fit proteges...
