I was wondering if anyone relocated their battery to the trunk? How did you go about doing it? I really want to clear up some space in the engine bay.

I put the battery in my trunk in my old 94 Cobra. You first mount the battery box, then run a short ground off the battery to the chassis, then run the positive wire to the original positive wire in the engine bay and remove the stock battery ground cable.

Here's a quote from the current MOTM winner bikingpro5 via PM when I asked him. You could try PM'ing him for not info.

I'm looking to do this...

Can you send me pics on how you did it?
How much wire would I need to purchase?

Any pointers on how to do it to our vehicles?

Thank you
Thomas
hmm lets see if i can remember.

I bought a roll of 0GA 25ft long,
a circuit breaker for near the battery so i can cut the power to the car easily from the trunk,
a fused distro block for under the hood with 2-0ga in and 3 - 4ga out
already had the terminals for the battery, and a few ends for the wires to hook up to circuit breaker/ground spot

I ran the 0Ga front to rear similar fashion if you were adding a stereo in the hatch down the drivers side of the car. I personally put my battery on passenger side for better weight distribution since im always on drivers side.

From the terminal on the battery the power wire goes to my circuit breaker then across under the floor in the hatch to the drivers side and to the engine bay to the distro on the 0Ga side, the other 0Ga side i went straight from Alt with a piece of 4Ga to the distro.

on the output side i have the fuse box, the wire that was connected to the battery, my inverted.

the battery is grounded to an OEM bolt right next to the battery in the hatch using a piece of 0GA less then 12"

let me know if you have any other questions or need clarification or pics. I don't normally post everything in my build thread but i have tons of photos.

I talked to someone that worked for Mazda when Racing Beat was doing the suspension testing for the MSP and he told me they moved the battery to the pass. side of the trunk and they had the car dialed in perfectly, however they would have to do an entire new series of crash tests to approve it for production so they couldn't do it

Where did you run the wire from the engine bay to the back? I know some run it under the car(sounds dangerous)

I ran mine under the carpet in my Cobra like I would a stereo install, however many people run it under the car without any problems. Worst case scenario would be an animal chewing through the wire or some serious road debris severing it. You would be SOL if that happened while driving.

+1 I have ran wires under a car before with no problems. I just made sure they were secured snuggly and insulated.
