03 Protege ES Header Issues!

I have an 03 Protege ES and I bought a cheap ebay header for it just to clean up the engine bay. I dropped it off to the guy that alway does all of my exhaust work while I was out of town yesterday and a couple of hours later I got a call saying that the EGR wouldn't hook up and that the header was against the oil pan. Both of these are common problems that I have heard before. I was just wondering what you guys thought I should do to fix this. I have heard some people say that they just put a filter on the EGR or just hook it up then bolt up the header. Will I have a CEL if I just put a filter on the EGR line? Can I pull the entire EGR line and put the filter closer to the intake so I don't have a line with a filter just hanging out? Is there any cheap headers that I won't have all of these issues? Any help would be great. I am wanting to get some input before I decide to just ship this one back.

Where can you get a real OBX these days? Protege Garage does not list them on their site anymore

I need to buy one for a 2.0L '03 P5

See I was thinking of doing that but I was reading online and I have heard people having fitment issues with the OBX too. Have you guys had any issues with yours? EGR plugged straight in? Not resting on the oil pan?

My OBX fit EGR with no resistance & oil pan has 3/8 clearance.....but I've had it for 7 1/2 yrs. The 2nd OBX one with a 3rd o2 bung for my wbo2 sensor hasn't been test fit yet but I hope it fits right. Guess I'll find out when I hack my ecu harness to install the piggyback, the FSZE intake, that header, the wbo2/gauge, voltage clamp, etc etc etc. I also have some kind of shiny unused header I got cheap enough for the new manifold gasket and donut that came with it to make it worth buying but it probably fits like the one OP is having trouble with.

was brand new and had no issues with them...still on the car as i type this, till next month anyway

well it should say obx! if it dont you got lucky on a ebay header that fitted.....
Some of the earlier OBXs must not have been marked or stamped like later on. Mine was purchased new in 2004 and doesn't have the markings or plate on one of the collector tubes like newer ones. It did come with OBX documentation and packaging.

Thanks for the help guys. I will be ordering the OBX this weekend. I got the ebay header boxed up and ready to be returned.
