Who wants to help?

So what's the update on this? I'm sick of driving by your house and seeing the P5 in the same spot!

It turns out my dad arranged behind my back for his mechanic friend to do it for $300. He just told me tonite when I got home from work. Thanks for the offers and help everyone! Dave, if you still don't need that timing belt I'll figure out a way to head out there and get it from you. Again you guys have been really helpful and I'm kind of upset my dad did this behind my back.

Ya, cause that would piss me off too. Now if dad is going to step up and foot the bill, that would make me happy.

They haven't said anything yet about that. My mom said something about half of it, but even then, I make around 350 every two weeks from Lowe's. On top of insurance and car payment, this dude better get this s*** done right and beyond my expectations if I'm shellin out that money. I was perfectly happy with my Mazda family helping me with it

Hey Jordan, Yes I still have it and I took it out to work with me this morning, so its in Birmingham not far from you. I'm heading into work tomorrow morning if you want to come and get it. Just call and we can hook up.

so i don't know why i haven't seen this yet! i'll be totally glad to do everything! save your money, it's time for me to help out someone now! haha

Evan can confirm that i can change/redo the timing belt in about an hour or so! ...i've had to do mine about 5 or 6 times now to get the time correct, don't worry, i've learned how not to mess with the timing, so you'll be able to start right up!

keep us up to date! and if you have lots of tools and a space to work that's even better!

^ it needs a head gasket done and water pump. Just loaded it on a trailer and burned the hell outta the timing belt. Not good at all. Dave I just sent you a text, wasn't sure if you were at work or not. Either today or tomorrow would be good, if you see this before the text.

well i've done a water pump, those aren't bad...but replacing the head gasket is a whole other ball game!

Loaded it on a trailer to take it in to get the work done?

Yeah. Got a car trailer. Taking it out to Norwalk for the work tomorrow morning. Just spent another hundred in more parts... While I'm thinkin about it, I use partial synthetic and have close to 100k miles. Would it be ok to put in that full synthetic castrol we got at mid Ohio?

It'd be perfectly fine to put full synthetic in!

I've heard once you switch to synthetic you should stick with synthetic. I've always just ran synthetic so I'm not positive but it does make sense not to switch back and forth. I just stick with Castrol Syntec.

And no special filter necessary. I like K&N oil filters for the 1" nut welded to the filter. They are so much easier to replace with the nut. But are a little more expensive.

Yeah I planned on using full synthetic anyway. But if that filter makes things easier I'll pick one up!

I'm weird and I only use OEM filters with the Miata. I used to use just whatever was on sale on the Speed but recently I switched to OEM only for that too. But I don't think it matters too much at the end of the day as long as you have an oil filter :)

Yeah, I had a buddy who only used OEM filters on his built Honda. I won't use crappy filters either and have been using K&N's for about 8 years on my cars. No issues.

And yes, Kevin is the timing belt king. I don't know why I forgot to ask him to help out too. But that's good the headgasket will get swapped and you'll have your car back and not freeze in the garage. The bad is it will cost someone some cash.

Yeah, I bought the K&N filter. Had a coupon for advanced auto so I bought the coolant I needed from there too. The guy is gonna pull the head off to see if it's warped at all. Clear something up for me fellas. If I'm correct, the motor will not turn over if it's hydrolocked right? When I started it up to drive it onto tge trailer (also against my better judgement) belts were squealing and burning fast. Seemed like timing belt. Why would this happen after sitting?

UPDATE! turns out the alternator bearing was shot. It was burning the alternator belt. Bought the cheapest alternator I could find that was new and not a reman. Another $140
