HPDE lapping day @ BeaveRun October 2 2011

Got my pads today!

What I don't get though, is where the HELL do they expect you to bed these things in at!? All that slowing down, speeding up, slowing down, speeding up....then get up to race speeds and slow down, BUT NOT TO A STOP, then speed up again to race speeds, DON'T STOP COMPLETELY, then IMMEDIATELY park the car and let it cool down so the rotors are cool to the touch. WTF? lol

still hoping to make it up to see you guys this sunday... but being that i have a wedding to go to saturday night, so i cant make any solid promises

Might have to wait until night time then hit up 77 at 3am. And don't forget when you're letting them cool to not have the ebrake on, it could warp the rotor.

I used rt21 and had alot of people watch me pass them and then slow down , and then pass them again etc. if you do it on the highway and then drive around for 10 min or so on the highway the will cool off enough. just don't set your ebrake till they are cool. if you got the HP+ pads they are not as critical to bed in as the blacks or blues. the hp+ is more of a trackday/autox pad than an all out race pad. they will work fine for you, I used them till I got faster @ midohio then I started over heating them on the long straight braking point.

Yea, I got the HP+'s, and I'm only going to use them on trackdays.

How often are the Mid-Ohio events come next season, and how much track time do you get typically? Are there deals like this? Or is it just 20 min HPDE's here and there?

IIRC...NASA had 3 events at Mid-Ohio this season. That would mean you would get around 8 or 10, 20 minute sessions if you were doing HPDE 1. If you only do Hyperdrive it would have been 1 20 minute session. Mid-Ohio also has varios car clubs (porsche is one that comes to mind) that rent the track for events that you can get in on as well.

running with NASA at Mid-Ohio is a GREAT event, but my ONE BEEF with them is that they do 2 day weekends only - i.e. you pay $380?(somewhere in that price range) for Sat and Sun ... you can't get just ONE DAY (except Friday, but you'll have to take off work, obviously) so the cost is essentially the same per day, but you have to dish out twice the money vs. doing a one day event ... it's def worth it if you can swing it the 3 times a year they run there. you get 4 - 20 min track sessions per day as well as 2-3 class room instructions AND an instructor in your car with you until you get signed off.

PCA (Porsche Club of America) does run there, as well as The Mid-Ohio School. not sure what their pricing structure is ...

Sounds like good times! Hopefully I can swing a few of those next season. 1-20 minute session every few months is just a tease. lol

I'm about ready for tomorrow, just need to pack some extra warm clothes, and go through the primer to make sure I have everything I need/understand the rules. Car's all washed and in the garage so it would be clean for tomorrow, but it looks like the weather's changed and now there's rain on the schedule...eff.

I don't think I'll be able to make it out there tomorrow to spectate. Had some unfortunate family stuff come up and I should really take my only days off to study for some big tests next week. I'm glad I couldn't register to race haha.

Looks like there will be a Lapping Day at Nelson Ledges on the 23rd. Same amount of track time, for only $110!

fun times yesterday, even in the rain. Glad you guys had a safe time. I think the track at BeaveRun is DEFINATELY safer to run in the rain vs. Mid-Ohio due to the sticky stuff they put on the track at M-O which is slicker than dog-s*** in the rain!!! didn't seem like you really had to run a 'rain line' at the beave ...

great food and company at lunch and YES, the RANCH is the BOMB!!! i think we'll be hitting that place up every time we are out there running from now on.

i downloaded my pics, will upload later today. i got a few, but came to realize that my camera battery does NOT like the cold. after a full charge, i took a few pics and the battery died completely. that happened once before at the beginning of the season, on a cold day, and i thought i needed a new battery ... then all summer long it worked fine until yesterday, when i realized it just doesn't like the cold. neither do i really, so i can relate.

josh, you did a GREAT job!!! considering you didn't have an instructor with you, you get 2 thumbs up for your first attempt and listening to what people told you and following instruction.

about the Nelson Ledges day, beware, unlike at the Beave, there is NO ROOM for ERROR at the Ledges, so don't get too over confident there ... basically NO RUN OFF and therefore tire walls everywhere ... and the track itself is pretty crappy and bumpy ... but i think the other drivers are your worst enemies, usually.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures! How did it go Josh?

Josh you looked really smooth and consistent during your lapping yesterday. Glad you got turn 7 down, you could see when that Miata got close to you and you held the steering when for that additional second you pulled away from him and he never got close to you. Great job yesterday and looking forward to see what you can do during the spring and summer.

Wow lots of water.

Pretty sure I saw a Viper and a Lamborghini in those pictures...

Miata's.....pfft! tee he

Glad you guys liked our favorite Beaver Co. spot! I've never had anything that was bad there. We had that pizza again last night, and there's still 2 pieces left, so we're going to supplement our P.F. Chang's Home Menu tonight with them, since those "dinner for 2" bags are barely enough for just ME! LOL

Just make sure you go the back way! 551 over to McKinley, MUCH faster and no tolls! Wish I would've remembered that way the first time. haha

Can't wait to see them! All the one's Steph took are alright, our camera doesn't really zoom that far though.

Thanks! It was a BIG help to have Marlon, Marc, and Evan there....many thanks to those guys and what they shared with me. I tried to do my best and take everything in, but in replaying the day in my head today, I realized I definitely need to work on executing the advice more. Like most newbs, I was mainly focused on the fact that this was actually happening! haha

I'm holding off on that place for a while. lol

To add to the replies above, I had a blast! Even thought it was 45 and NON-STOP rain all day. haha I couldn't believe how well my car went on a wet track, passed a few cars...Mustang, Ferrari, Viper, even lapped a Miata on the last session. Obviously RWD's had to be more cautious though, and it wasn't an actual race, so I'm trying not to be too cocky about it, but it was still cool none the less.

I think I did a pretty good job of controlling the car in the rain too. Again, Marlon's advice helped out a lot. Can't wait for next season! I know dry conditions will be totally different though, but I'm excited to find out how the pfizzle does then! I don't see myself getting too gung ho on dropping tons of money to track this thing though. I'll do the little things to make it a better lapping day car, like SS brake lines and I already have a rear sway coming, but I doubt I'll drop $1000 for coilovers and $1500 for a set of race rims and tires. I'd rather get a better/faster car and go from there. lol I was nervous enough about being between 4500-6500rpm's in 3rd most of the day, but meh, it won't stop me from doing a few days next season.

This pesky Prelude was too proud to let me pass on the straights, even though I was up his ass come the corners. Then he found his self in the grass off turn 10! HA!
