suspension or cowel noise?

wow this is interesting. I might have this and not know due to loud muffler haha. Hm. I'll have to listen closer or wait till I swap back to stock for winter! Thanks for the heads up/investigation in here.

I don't have this noise yet, my car only has 1600 km's on it. But I am wondering if anyone is getting this noise with a STOCK setup. I don't know everyones car who has this problem, but it seems like some of you have either lowered their car, or changed out the wheel/tire combo for something more aggressive.

Do you think these mods could be the culprit? Added forces to an otherwise weak link?

Nope. My suspension is bone stock. Same with the wheel/tire combo. I actually got the shuddering noise on the highway yesterday under heavy braking. Someone cut me off and I had to jam on the brakes for a second... same noise... much more terrifying on the highway.

My car is brand spanking new and whenever I just start the car and take off from a parked position I notice a small rattle or "chatter" from the front somewhere.... very strange for a new car... and this was from day 1 so I know nothing was worn out.

My brand new 2011 made a horrible noise over speed bumps and when starting out sometimes. I wasnt bottoming out on the speed bumps either. Strange enough I got my H&R springs installed and the noise is gone. Maybe noisey springs? I dunno

I get the initial clunk when starting to move in first after having the car sitting for hours. It never really bothered me that much, but I do feel it in the steering wheel.

That's encouraging that the H&R springs fixed you suspension noise, nerdrage. That's next on my mod list lol. My rear suspension only seems to squeak when it's cold though.

You might be hearing the Traction/Stability control "calibrating" itself. There was a thread about that noise early on, and I think that was the general consensus.

There is a TSB out for this. I had a ton of squeaking last winter. Turns out a bunch of 2's shipped with really noisy rear suspension... bushings?... i forget what it was exactly. But I went to the dealer about it and they were aware... went in a lubed something up... no more noise.

Mine makes that noise on startup, almost like a solenoid engaging something. And I will be taking mine in since mine is squeaking, thanks!

You gonna take it in with the lowering springs installed? lol

I might take mine in this winter if the squeaking starts up when it cools off.

Yep. It made the noise before I put them on. If they give me an attitude I just won't go back to them for anything.

a little update...after months of waiting, mazda gave me a call and scheduled to install the updated rnp today, im at the dealer and just waiting for my 2 to be released with the new part. Ill update this thread for feedback. Best for you guys is to report the noise to your dealers

I took mine in a couple weeks ago for the rear end squeaking; they ended up just replacing the rear shocks.

I actually noticed a squeaking sound coming from the back of my car yesterday, after seeing this thread I'll pay more attention.

Btw.. I also once in a while get a clicking sound when the car has been sitting and it is cold. I made a thread about it, and called a couple different dealers, and they all seem to think it's relatively normal for the 2.

dont think it is. we discovered the noise back in july of 2010 and really had to bug mazda about it and gladly, they identified it as a defect and worked on a solution. 2 owners are being contacted by their service centers as we speak to schedule their replacements

I took my car to Cutter Mazda in Hawaii. They took everything apart and finally called Mazda USA corporate. They diagnosed some kind of steering rack problem and deemed it unsafe to drive. I will now pick up a loaner to use for the week or so it takes them to special order the new parts. They're going to replace everything related to steering... even the electric pump. Odd, but I guess they want to

Update - they replaced the rack with an updated model and now there is no noise. Success! And all covered under warranty...
