I wanted a nice hands free setup for my iPhone so did some searching around to see what was available. I came across www.mountguys.com and found something for my iPhone and iPad that will work for me...

iPhone mount

iPad mount (comes with small holder and an extra mount for other cases/holders)

I used the extra mount and attached to my Otter Box case

The mount is solid, I have it situated so it rests on the top of the dash for extra support

It has an adjustable mount to adjust/fine tune the angle as well, positioned towards the passenger

I'm very happy with the setup and not bad for $60.

Here's my old mount for the Uniden home patrol

I had the same thing as you for the iphone, but I found over time that the long style suction cup arm "wobbled".

Here's the bastardized cd platform mount I made into a monitor arm for the 7" lilliput touch screen. It's hooked up to the car pc under the passenger seat.

Beats the $250 that all the online stores wanted for genuine monitor arms. Not bad for $14! Who wants external cd platform arms, that's like, early 80's tech!

And where it hooks under the bolt for the passenger seat.

Your right the phone mount does wobble, I will situate that or add as brace to it to prevent it soon. The iPad is solid and doesn't move at all, it's sweet and does everything I need it to. I just need a small pad to put on the dash under the mount arm so it doesn't mess up the dash with marks/dents.

I'm using one that I got for $1.50 at Daiso. (Basically a Japanese dollar store.) It's just held on to the dash above the radio with double-sided adhesive tape thingies that are supposed to be removable without damage. I would've spent ten times the amount but didn't find any more expensive ones I liked as much, and attaching anything to a windshield in CA is illegal.
