What have you done to your P5 today?

may have to get rid of the car. I dont have the money to get it fixed at a shop, and can't find an engine that I can afford to throw in the car (or space to do it with the tools for that matter). it really sucks not having money to get this fixed...

If your willing to make the drive to Canada, you can have my spare motor for a small fee

There's gotta be someone in or around your area who would help out a guy in need. Have you tried making a thread asking for local help? Man, if I was close I'd happily come help you out. My heart goes out to you man :(

There are people local, but I don't know anyone with a motor. It sucks since I really am tapped for cash being that I have another kid on the way (possibly) and housing about to be mine.

I fried my little Infinity powered sub this weekend... I'm very sad. I miss that little guy.

I haven't had the sub hooked up for over a month while the car was parked, hooked it up sunday and reset my stereo and sub controls and it sounded great once again. Then about an hour later fired up the car to run and errand and the sub popped and crackled and smoke came out of it. It didn't blow the big boy inline fuse but blew the 20amp fuse on the sub. I opened it up to see if I could spot anything fried and everything still looked okay. I didn't mess the the wiring to the sub when I did my KL swap but now I'm afraid to hook it up and try again in fear of frying something else... Any ideas?

I read a lot of reviews saying that those subs randomly die, the smoke doesn't help your case :S

If you want to be extra cautious, take apart the sub and look for popped capacitors or fried ICs on the amplifier and replace them before plugging it back in. Otherwise, take azuelke's advice and fire it up. It's not going to damage anything but itself.

How long have you had the sub. If you really like it call Infinity and see if they can cover the cost for repair.

Well Phen had the sub before me and I've had it for about a year now. I didn't overwork it and crank it to 11 or anything. I guess it was just it's time to die. I opened it up and didn't see anything burnt. But if its toasted then I'll probably just buy another one from Crutchfield for $240. It was my first sub so I don't know anything about car stereo subs. But I'm a bassist so I know about bass amps. I've had one crap out on me, but it didn't smoke and pop like this one did. haha

Oh, it's an oldie. I sold it to him after I bought it used and had it for 2 years.

I'm not upset or anything and it had a good long life, I just didn't want to buy another one if my wiring is bad and blow up the new one. And hell, for $100 with all the wiring it was a damn good deal, Phen. ;)

I'll just buy another one then. I don't like/need a huge system in my car.

The newer versions are a bit nicer than the 1st gens. They definitely do the job well for what they are.

tried to get an syn oil change done yesterday...out of my filter size, try again today...at least I got a $10 off coupon

Finally took out the dead hvac controls. I really cant understand why some people mod thier cars. The previous owner had the surround piece painted an almost midniteblue color but when they re installed the HVAC controls they didnt re attach the metal tab/clip things that allow the cable to move and keep the plastic sleeve in place. Id prefer to see it stock and working than to see it painted and not. WTF?

Also I swapped the CF shift knob for a stock one 99% of my shifting problems gone.

Again Form>Functionality. Mod with a freakin purpose

/rant.

If it is dead, amazon has them for $190: https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

Score! Thanks, Cheese. I keep forgetting about Amazon for car parts. I always think of books and cd's when I think of Amazon.

That's the newer version which is twice the power of the original. Cleaner sounding as well.
