camshafts for 1.8s?

:
99 protege es, 01.5 b5.5 wagon 1.8t
does anyone know of where i could find camshafts for the 1.8? ive looked around a bit but all i see are ones for the 2.0s

Only ones I know of, is DBillas in Germany, and they only do reground cams. So you would need to find some used and get them send to Europe... There must be a better alternative, but not what I know of, since I live in Europe...

But there must be someone who can reground your old cams for higher end power in your neighborhood??!?

There have been various experiments with cams for the 2.0, but haven't heard about anything really successful.

the 2.0 cams will work fine on the 99-00 1.8 engine. it is pretty much the same engine anyway.

yea thats what i figured but im more familiar with the newer mazdas not the older ones, and we have a 2.0 sitting at a friends shop that ive been debating snagging but im not sure of the benefits of the 2.0 cam and like i had said whether or not it would work and well yea i figured it may but id rather not experiment on my dd. i may check that company anyways for the heck of it.

The is what "The Man" wrote to me.

the stock "FS-ZE" cam came on the 2.0 sportive in europe... justme from estonia installed this and the mazdaspeed exhaust cam on his 1.8 before and got poor results, so you can forget about this

But thats just the FS-ZE cams. If you try something else with good results, please post it and the used cams... Others (including me) would appreciate it.

just because one person installed the cams in his car and got bad results (whatever constitutes "bad results") doesnt mean they wont work out. as drop in replacements, they may not be the best. cams are probably the last mod you would want to do, before tearing into the engine, anyway. start with the basics: intake, header, exhaust... then, move to the next step: port match the intake manifold to the head, light-weight pullys, light-weight flywheel... then, look into ecu mods, standalone if you can afford it. THEN, have a look at cams and adjustable cam gears.

at least, those are the steps i would follow...

Right, but then list someone who has done it with success.

Its the only example I know of, so I just need other examples to prove that one wrong. Are you running a 1,8 with different cams?? Or do you know of anyone???

I have done intake and exhaust including exhaust header, so cams would do nicely.

SleepyGonzalez (sp?) ran twiggy sticks in his FP. All FS cams will work fine in the FPs.

Sleepy even ran his stock engine with a few supporting mods to 7.5k rpm daily without any problems, something that would have FS's flying apart :)

And yes i know this threads old but in case someone else goes looking for the answer its here.

Well, thats what I like to hear.
Thanks for the update, ice88. (thumb)

Sorry just saw this post.

Havnt been checking here as regurarily as I did when I had my mazda. Google/thread search will yield you lots of information on the cams, theres also a thread in the MSP section dedicated to Cams that you can look in :)

In regards to others running cams theres been a few people whove modified the FP with cams. For the life of me I cant remember the others :/ IT was loooong ago though (6-7 years ago)

ok so time to resurrect this from the dead. I now have a set of mazdaspeed protege cams and finally have complete exhaust header back with thermal designs cat back and an injen cold air intake so before I do the underdrive pulleys I want to know if anyone knows for sure if these cams will work in my car. I heard a while ago that only one of the two msp cams will help my engine but I believe it was the exhaust cam and before I waste my time installing one or the other or both to find out I figured I'd ask you guys.

Bumping an old thread. Check out Protege FAQ for information.

You wouldn't want to use MSP cams on a FP. JDM FS cams sure, they'd provide a bit of pick me up.

Same cams as the us fs-de afaik. Might want to double check though as I really don't pay a hell of alot of attention to msp stuff.
