Hey All,

I've been doing alot of research on trans fluid for my MS3 and I've come to the conclusion that most people are not recommending Redline because of the whine after 10K...but most are using the Ford Full Synthetic fluid with Great results....however I was wondering for those of you using Royal Purple Max Gear if you can chime in with your experiences?? pro/cons.

Thanks.

I had RP in until I changed to ford
it was fine, they have two weights, I think I had 2 of the light and 1 heavy, and some stayed in cuz I only bought 2qt of that OMG expensive ford stuff.

which I will almost certainly by more of when the time comes it is a good product

read the RP label carefully, they make a "gear" oil that is as thin as ATF fluid

Yea this RP shyt is definately expensive too at 18 bucks a quart.....and I've been cross checking with RP about the actual fluid that is recommended based on Mazda and theirs...and from what they told me the Max Gear 75w90 is the correct one based on the API GL-4 required by Mazda for their Manual transmissions.

Okay so it's official...today I changed my oil from Castrol Syntec to Royal Purple and used RP Maxgear and man what a DIFFERENCE...shifts smooth and damn the motor is quieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! hope it lives up to the name of more mpg too!! all I can say tho in all honesty it's money well spent!

Only problem I had with the Max Gear is that in the winter it takes FOREVER to get up to temperature.....and shifting sux until it does. The Ford fluid is much better in that regard.....however the ford fluid does not come with the friction modifyer for the LSD like Max Gear (and anyone who says other wise is wrong)!

you are correct about the cold part since it's really thick when it's cold...however even tho that is the case I still find it 100% better then stock fluid, that much I know.

I was debating between these two and the ford stuff... how much is the ford stuff?

don't go with Lucas the stuff is WAY to thick....Ford fluid is welll liked by alot of members here...so it's more or less personal choice....Personally I believe in Royal Purple, they have NOT let me down yet..

I hit 32k recently, needing to do this. I have used RP for oil changes since I got the car in 09. Pretty sure I'll continue to use it for the gears too!

Oh and if you do decide to get RP, sign up @ advancedautoparts .com and you will get a 20% off coupon to order it...that's what I did..

3 quarts is correct...if your going to do it yourself make sure you get 3' of clear tubing to get the stuff to go into the correct filler hole, otherwise it's a PITA cuz gear oil is much thicker then standard ATF fluid.

I'm sure you'll be glad you did once it's done....oh and just fyi make sure you give it a week or so to "absorb" then give us some feedback...mine day after day shifted smoother and smoother and after a week it was prime.!!
