The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Oh dayum. Nevermind then. Haha! Just spray your stocker with some spray paint and call it a day.

Josh, it looks okay from the pics. There are some things a bit off on it though I'm sure Phen can verify. It's a 2002.5 and I thought the leather interior P5's came with the chrome wheels? Where are the Enkei wheels he mentioned? It wouldn't hurt to send the seller an email asking questions. He seems honest, but I just don't trust anyone.

Pretty much all P5's will rust in the rear wheel well though, sadly.

Looks pretty good. Decent enough price too.

What's with the .5 stuff I keep reading? 2002.5, 2003.5, etc. I imagine it's half years, but how could you tell from an add?

Just got off the phone with him. The enkei's are wrapped up for the winter. He did say they were 16's, and had like new Potenza's on them. Seems like a real nice guy...kind of talked TOO much about the car! lol I could barely get a question in! But, he's older, and really seems like he took care of the car. He's emailing me more pics of the bad areas right now.

I'm not sure if it will happen though. He said there's another person interested in it that's coming to look at it this weekend, and I don't think we'll have our tax return back until next week sometime. Also, depending on how bad the rust is, he might not like the offer I'd make. Even though I'm a body man, I really don't want a car that's rusting too too bad.

Eff....it's pretty bad.

I don't think I'd go over $3500 for the thing, and that's only because I believe it to be in good mechanical condition, and that's more important to me right now than looking good. Not sure if he'd come down $900 though...but we'll see.

Hahaha...rally car, WHAT!

In thinking about it more, I don't even know if I'd go over $3000 for the car. Materials alone would be around $300, and bumpers aren't cheap. I would be willing to bet there's hidden damage under the front too. It could be upwards of $1000 or more to repair the body, (or I should say repairing the front, and putting a band aid over the rust) even for me doing it myself at home.

In my searches, I wouldn't have given this car a second look, but after talking to the guy, I'm confident enough in the mechanical condition of the car to still consider buying it.

Mine's just as bad as that one. These things rust like crazy. But with you being a body shop guy, the repair costs will be super low. But mine is very reliable and mechanically sound too.

If you do any bosy work repairs let me know so I can come over and watch. I want to learn so badly. haha

Hahaha, no problem!

What would you guys say is a fair price for this thing then? I'd rather buy from this guy, as opposed to some used car lot that doesn't know jack about the car because they just bought it cheap at auction. He's owned this since '04/22Kmi.

I just don't know if I can justify having $5000 in a car that is just going to continue to rott out from underneath me? ($4000/car, $1000/repairs) What good is a mechanically sound car if there's no body on top of it! lol Although, he DOES have that extra set of rims as well.

extra wheels for proteges are like assholes... everyone has them, so I wouldn't try to use that as a selling point.

So... the whole ".5 thing" is that Mazda had ADD when building these cars and decided to change something halfway thru the model year. Example:

2002 cars have a cover for the cup holder, older style "twist" wheels, no turn signals on the front fenders... for starters. (different shift forks in the transmission than later cars too)
2002.5 lose the cover on the cup holder, gain the 2003 style wheels (as seen on that car), different shift forks
2003.5 lose the roof rack as it becomes an option at that point. They also gain a factory sub in the spare tire well as an option.

There's some other piddley stuff like that too, but not too important overall.

Gotcha.

Yea, I was wondering about the wheels too. That's fine that he has 2 sets, but what if they're some ugly ass rims that I wouldn't even rock. lol I'm pretty sure he said they are 16's.

I really wasn't sure about the leather as well. One of this thing's primary uses, is to haul my 2 boxers around. I didn't want them putting holes in the seats or something. They would be folded down, but sometimes the dogs get wild and jump all over the car! Also, sitting on an ice cube in the winter doesn't sound like fun to me. There's no ass warmers like our Trailblazer has!

yep, hence why I'm gonna have The Phen's extra set of 16 p5's for winter and my set of 16' Motegi's for summer. I've got an extra set of MSP springs if you end up with a pro/pro5.

IIRC somewhere around 1.25-1.5" it's not a drastic drop, more of a better spring rate.

I don't ever remember your car having any rust on it.
