Consol armrest padding

It appears the drivers side center consol armrest pad has become fully compressed on our 8 month old CX-9. I don't put an abnormal weight on it but it feels like hard plastic now. Anybody else notice this? I guess it can get replaced under warranty but I am sure it will do it again in several months. Wish they put a little more robust pad in there.

I've noticed the same thing as well, and our CX-9 is only 3 months old.

Armrest

Mine is about 9 months old, and I have noticed this since about the 3 month mark. I can't see having them replace it again with the same padding, so was wondering if anyone had found a better product with which to replace the pad.

I know you have to cut costs somewhere but dang. My 6 year old Lexus ES armrest is still comfy new feeling. =( And yes, you would think there is a revised part with better padding but I guess I'll find out soon.

Don't know about the new split-style one, but my old-style (1-piece) is still fine after 3 yrs.

We have a 2010 that is 11 months old and the padding on the driver side is half in one spot is completely gone. All the way down to the plastic. I just haven't taken it to the dealership yet.

As ceric indicated, I think it is only an issue for the 2010+ CX-9s. All 2010+ CX-9s use better (softer) leather in seat surface and I see a big improvement personally over my 2009. It must use the same soft leather on the armrest and changed to softer padding as well for the new split-open design... my 2009's armrest padding is just fine.

Yeah, I'm going to have the dealer look into it when I bring it in for service in a couple weeks. The driver side half of the console is flat as a pancake, while the passenger's side is still springy. This was a new design for 2010, so they probably didn't adequately test the long-term durability of the foam they use -or- their supplier gave them a bad lot of parts. I hope they can fix it because other than the foam and the buzzing that is produced around the latch area (probably related to the hard plastic they use for the latch and mating surface) the split design is pretty cool and exceptionally functional. So much so that when I get in my Mz6 sGT I find the one piece lid to be exceeding frustrating to use.

I raised this on my 5K service and a new part was ordered for the vehicle. I will update if the replacement is better, after a few months of use.

I had the "faulty rear lid console" (Part# TE69-64-460E-02) replaced today. The part, according to the service order, costs $327.48. So, if anyone of you is experiencing this issue, I suggest getting the fix done. If I experience this issue again, I'll get it fixed again. If Mazda does not get better materials for this part, there's always Lemon Law. Console padding should never decompress like this.

Really? You'd go after them with the Lemon law? I doubt you'd have any luck having the car considered a lemon becasue of console padding.

My dealer also ordered me a new part without even questioning it. I did sample one of the 2011 models and both the latching mechnism and the split lid doors felt a bit more substantial. Hopefully this is the case since I found the lid latching mechanism buzzed a lot. Considering 2010 was the first year they used the redesigned center console lid I'm sure it was simply a part supplier issue. Any new design usually has a couple of bugs. I for one though think the new lid design is excellent.

Well, if the problem is persistent, it's worth a try. A buddy of mine was able to Lemon Law his Jeep after having persistent issues on his sunshade always detaching.

I don't have a buzzing issue with the console lid latching. I do like the split lid design since it gives easier access to the console contents. However, it should not be at the expense of inferior console padding.

No argument here. I actually think it takes away appreciably from the interior's otherwise high quality. Traditionally though Mazda has been pretty good about working these small bugs out. It may take some time for it to register on their radar since it does take time for small issues to purcolate through a company, even a small one like Mazda. Chances are the new one will probably develop the same issue unless Mazda has already corrected it for 2011. The CX-9 is my 6th Mazda and I have yet to be disappointed by how I'm treated or how the company handles itself.

I agree about the high quality interior. This is our 1st Mazda, but there's like 5 Mazdas within the family. So, I'm familiar with the reliability and value of Mazdas. Hopefully, this is just a niggling issue.

FYI, got the center console assembly replaced today. FWIW the new part's padding feels firmer than the older part. The lids also doesn't buzz like the old one. We'll see how it fairs over time.

Console padding is starting to decompress again. There is now a notable dip, like the previous console. I will have this replaced at the next oil change.

I haven't noticed it yet. How long have you had the new part? Keep having them replace it. It's the only way they'll know there is an issue.

Can someone post a picture showing how bad the problem is?
We, 2007/2008 owners, cannot imagine the problem since our old consoles have no padding issue (I think).
