The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

The other issue with an 8" rim is that with a 225 tire, you tire will NOT properly be able to protect the rim. There are a lot of posts of guys running 225's on their 8" rims to avoid having to roll fenders at all, but they leave the rim too exposed and easily scrape or scratch it. IMO the 235 on an 8" rim from everything I have read is perfect.

And thanks Evan for the Delti site - I just picked up some Kuhmo Ecsta SPT's for $104/ea., LOL - and those were my original first choice (but were $140/each+ on the other sites)!

Hell ya!! Glad to help out

Im unrolled but if I got to I will dont want anything thats gona be rubbing after I do that though. I got the cobb springs which are only an inch drop but Im thinking Im goin to go with some coilover this spring/summer but im not sure. I need to get shocks if not :/ So whats a fat tire thats gona fit safely on my 18x8 but not rub on rolled fenders and not have a shorter sidewall. Thanks!

The after market springs will reduce your tendency to rub with 235/40/18's. From the posts I have read, the 235/40/18 almost lines up perfectly with the fender well edge (no tire is sticking out). Others have noted that the 235 will almost eliminate the excessive wheel spin from a dig. I did most of my homework on 225 vs. 235 on the RX8 rim (also 8" wide), so I can't comment on what the 245 will look like or how it would fit.

One more thing after quickly scanning tirerack, and then I'll shut up! The price between a 235 and 245 is almost the same. The side benefit with going to a 245 would be that (it appears) there are more options on tire choice.

or maybe not lol? I dunno 245 would look stupid wide would they? and are 235/40 and 245/40 same side wall height? I dont want something any shorter than what I got now.

I have 235/40 on RX8 wheels and they line up almost perfectly with the fender.

I found this site which is really nice. If you put the stock tires on the left and the tires you want on the right, it will show you how much difference it is.

I believe 235/40 and 245/40 will actually have different heights due to the way the tire stretches. Try using the link with those sizes.

That sites great thanks

Pablo and I are going to put on my stainless steel brake lines on this weekend, anyone have a speed bleeder I can rent? I'll take very good care of it, I promise. And I'm going to flush the brake fluid so can anyone recommend a good brake fluid for a daily driver with a few track days?

FYI - Stoptech's website has a pretty nice writeup on the issue of brake fluid. I have always used ATE superblue and have had pretty good luck - it has a high enough boiling point to permit occasional track use and won't break the bank.

Another vote for ATE super blue or ATE Type 200 (they are the same, just different colors so you know when a full flush is complete). Tons of people use them for track or street use. Very good stuff and not expensive.

The with the stock bumper you would either want to use one that welded all the way along the bottom of the steel bumper (its not that thick so the length would be needed so it wouldn't rip out when being towed. Another option would be to make one up that bolts to the bumper mounting location. Miatas are lucky because they have bolt on parts available to buy.
After having this a few years and banging my shin on it a bunch of times, I would recommend a tow strap. These seem to be more popular now because they don't stck out and therefore don't interfere with bump drafting and don't get in the way of walking around the car. A commercial strength wheel strap for towing wrapped around bumper should work nicely if you could control its position so it wouldn't damage your bumper cover when being towed.

That's a great idea, need to find a way to make it work.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll pick up some ATE Superblue then. Does anyone know of a local store that carries it? I checked Summit Racing but it's not listed on the site.

And what do you guys think about speed bleeders? When I was bleeding my brakes last fall one of the bleeder valves bent so I will need to replace it. I don't mind paying the $20 for all four calipers, but they seem kinda too good to be true...

Good for a laugh or two

Tire rack has it avail. I was thinking about picking some up since we have an account thru the shop.

^^^ Yeah, I saw that. I am ordering tires from them soon but kinda wanted to do my brakes this weekend so I was hoping for something local. How much would one need for a brake system flush?

I would guess 2 bottles to completely flush out all the old fluid and fill with the new. let me know if you decide to order a few bottles.

Hey Evan, if I were closer I'd let you use my pressure bleeder. With it I can literally bleed all four corners in less than an hour, by myself.

Regarding brake fluid I'm currently using some synthetic Prestone (DOT4). Like you, I wanted to pick up some ATE Super Blue, but couldn't find anything locally so I went with the Prestone. Not saying it's better than ATE, but it was readily available and seems to have held up just find.

Thats what i use

I can see what I've got. The biggest issue would be getting it to you, although I will be as far as Wadsworth (Route 94 or Route 261, take your pick) around 3:30p tomorrow...Or you are welcome out my way to either do the work or just come pick up the bleeder anytime--I'm home all evening both today and tomorrow. I need to make sure I have a speed bleeder first!
