The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

ok, just spent the better part of an hour between talking with my insurance and glass repair - one place Advance Auto Glass said right off the bat the windshield needs replaced ... then Marlon suggested i call Safelite. their policy is if it's under 6" it may be able to be repaired, which i would not pay for vs. the replacement i have to pay due to my deductible. i am going over there at lunch time to see what's up - and hopefully it can be repaired and no money out of my pocket. let's keep fingers crossed. they normally do 'house' calls, but because it's so cold out, it needs to be repaired indoors in a warmer environment. i'll keep you posted ...

ok, back to wheel discussion once again ...

I just had my windshield repaired from a rock that hit the speed3 onthe way back from Daytona. I called safelite they gave me a quote of $119 for a chip/crack repair. I called my insurance agent and the told me to call gardian auto glass there price was $75 but I got a discount for be a state farm customer it was $53 with tax. try giving them a call the came to my place of work and fixed in there it took about 20min.

i'll call them, that was one of the names that my insurance company gave me, just didn't make it down that far on the list in my calling ... i don't care what they charge for a repair, because my deductible is waived on that and i don't pay a dime. if it's a full replacement though, i'll be shopping around, because that will be coming out of my pocket. i know they normally will come to me, but the first place i called said because it was so cold out, they couldn't do outside repairs. ?? let me see what guardian has to say ... thanks, marc!

just called guardian, and anything over 2" they replace the windshield ~ they quoted me $217.84. so far Safelite is the only place willing to possibly repair it. i'll take it down there for them to look at and if it needs replaced, i'll call around. i already got a quote of $200.71 from Advance Auto Glass for full replacement. i'll have to check on the oem status though ... if it comes down to alot more money out of my pocket, it ain't gonna happen.

I can understand why they wouldn't replace a windshield outdoors perhaps because of the caulk or silicone they use. If my work wasn't so far away from you guys I would just offer you to drop your car off here and leave it inside for them to work on it. Plenty of room here.

Larry, those Enkeis Nate posted look really nice. Shoot, if you don't buy them I might for my track tires I bought of Marlon I still need to find wheels for... And I like Rotas too. Hell I like just about any brand of wheel. But you get what you pay for. I bought my RPF1's because they have been my dream wheel since I first got into imports 12 years ago. They were local and Jon is a great guy and they were a great deal so I snagged them. Granted, I had to sell my beloved upright acoustic bass to pay for them though ($1000 for the wheels and tires). And I nailed a pothole in Cleveland and bent one of them and smacked a curb and bent another so light weight wheels are easier to damage, but that's the trade off. From then on, I bob and weave every little pothole. ;)

^^^^^^ Phendy said it best, Rays manufacturers the majority of the wheels inclusing ASA Wheels that are licensed by BBS. I can't see paying $2400 for BBS wheels on the street, especially in this area where pot holes reign supreme, just ask Pablo! By what you like and enjoy it, after all it is your money that you are spending.

I've ran into a few nasty ones, the roads just suck out here, especially with coilovers. So far the wheels are still perfectly round (as far as I can see), lightweights are not a good idea for me (unless they're track only).

Lauri that really sucks, I'm actually surprised my windshield is not cracked or chipped after what I've heard on the highway several times

ok, this will be the end of my story for today - went to safelite and little did i realize that under the dirt and the windshield wiper there is a nice maybe 6" crack running along the bottom of the windshield, in the dark tint, before it turned north to where i finally saw it (i felt like such a blonde!! duh!) ... so it HAS to be replaced at this point. they quoted me $175 for their safelite glass, $199 for an oem 'knockoff' or she said i'd have to order the oem from the dealer ... i told her my concern about 'waves' in the glass. she said all glass can have defects, but if it's something that i see that's a defect, they will replace for free.

that's where i stand right now. no major rush at this point, i'll keep my eye on it and get it replaced soon, but at least i can drive the car (unlike my debacle last week)

Well at least you know now where you stand.... Mine was replaced a few years ago but my glass deductible is $100.

bulls***. I'd inspect it first. Look through the glass and pick an object in the distance. Now walk sideways keeping your eye on the fixed point while the glass moves. If you see some waves, send it back. Some windshields are better than others. Mine has waves in, but they are on the passenger's side and along the edges so it doesn't bother me.

btw when I had the windshield in the MS6 replaced my deductible was 50 bucks. I guess each state has different policies for glass replacement.

i think it depends on your insurer, i have to pay out of pocket because of my policy but had an option to have them cover for $15 more a month IIRC

Yeah, I had my windshield replaced before I tinted it and it was about $230, my insurance (State Farm) would only cover it if I paid my deductable of $250. But mine wasn't cracked or anything, it was just pitted from highway miles and I didn't want to tint a chipped up windshield. I got mine from Safelite and they did a really good job. I told the tech that I love my car and to take his time. There aren't any waves or anything in the glass I got from them. Just my $0.02

I only know this because I had FL insurance for a while but had to swap to CT insurance because that is where I was stationed at the time.

If you live in Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, or South Carolina, you live in what's called a "Zero Deductible State." That means that your insurance company is required by law to allow you to purchase a windshield replacement using insurance with no deductible—as long as you have comprehensive insurance on your vehicle. If you live in one of these states, and have comprehensive insurance, it makes sense to use your insurance to pay for your auto glass replacement. Florida and Massachusetts only fully cover windshields, but Kentucky and South Carolina cover all glass replacement.

Also, I'm pretty sure that most insurers have a different deductible for glass or a separate section for "Glass Only" on the insurance policy.

Baller status for the name. - You charge the price, some one will buy them and then brag left and right about them.

Whether he realizes it or not, Phen is directly referencing me with this statement. LOL

Ok, so it is more a status thing. Kinda like build it and they will come, except price them high and they will pay. Hell I am just dreaming at this point. Maybe if Uncle Sam comes through big I will be able to get wheels, I would rather get sway bars. Lauri, that is just nuts that you can't block your own driveway, and the fine payment goes to Cali. What is this world coming to?

how do you figure... i took it as he means the guy that buys a set of work/rays/etc etc wheels then acts like hes better than everyone else cause he bought a 3-4k set of wheels for an 18k car haha

exactly, got my evo wheels with 3 tires with 40% tread left for $200.

Ya Nate I saw the link. Just too much money for me. Levi I could go 18" but I don't want to roll/pull my fenders. Aren't 18" tires alot more expensive than 17"? Modding on a budget blows!
