CAI and Underbody wash

I need to check out the filter and all. From what I can see from above, everything looks fine. Looks like the hydroshield is in place and everything is in order, but I guess I should take it all apart and check it. It's just such a pain to do that since I have to take off the wheel and all the guards under there...

Update: Car has run fine ever since that day. I think everything is okie dokie.

Now I just need to figure out how to handle it in the future. I like to be able to get the underbody wash, at least in the winter to get the salt coating off, but I don't want to be getting this stuff happening every time. Maybe I can devise some sort of shield I can drop in before the wash, and then take out right after. I don't know. Something for me to think about.

It happens whenever I go through an autocarwash. It's not a big deal. I've probably done it 20 times. Only does it with the CPE intake. My mazdaspeed intake never had the issue.

Don't the mazdaspeed CAI's haves metal shield around the filter? Maybe that's the difference.

Mine is Mazdaspeed and DOES have the hydro-shield. IMO it is too small.

I have a hydroshield on there now. I guess it doesn't work 100% of the time, eh? :-)

May have to do the extra plate on the fender vents thing. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a hydroshield but I actually got some metal flashing (for roofs) from the hardware store, drilled some holes in it, and tie wrapped it to anything I could find as some added underbody protection. Stills allows for good airflow from the nooks and crannies as well.

While I was changing the oil and switching out the Air filter on my CAI, I went ahead and duct taped the wheel-well vent holes to try to prevent this problem. I figured it shouldn't really be much harm, particularly now that it is getting close to winter up here and the temps are gonna be cold anyhow so getting cool air shouldn't be a big problem. We'll see if it holds up for long.

I just really want to be able to wash the car when I need to over the winter so I can get the salt and crap off.
