Possible CX-7 in our future

White P5 go-kart
Cindy and I shopped for a new ride for her today.
After considering a few alternate "CUV" sized vehicles, she is liking the CX-7 alot. (YES!)
It's at McGee in Hanover. Of course, I think they want too much for it.
It's an '07 with 24K in Copper Red for $17K.

We are also seriously considering a leasing a new one.

I HATE this process! The salespeople can be the worst.
However, Sean at Metro Motorgroup in Raynham was the BEST!
Had horrible experiences at Sullivan in Kingston and, yes Cape Mazda too.
Tried a half dozen others over the weekend, and feel dirty from the ludicrous sales tactics.

Anyway...any input is appreciated.

We may soon have a new member here...our Zoom zoom family is expanding.

Bought my RX-8 from Metro (Raynham) 2 years ago and they were good to work with. They put the pressure on but what Sales person doesn't. I dealt with a kid Josh, who was great. Since then they have been polite and professional during any service work. Just do your research, plan on staying there awhile, don't take it personal and leave there with the deal you want. Remember a used car actually has a bigger mark up than a new so they can negotiate the prices better.

Good Luck!!

I just don't understand how these dealers really think high pressure sales tactics is the way to be these days.

Hope it works out Crazy D. :D You think you would rock the CX-7 to meets now or the P5 though?

Woot that's awesome Dan! I wish you luck! Be sure to ask about the TSB re: the turbo and an extended warranty might be worth looking at, JIC.

Leasing only works out for people that drive very little, and have a habit of changing cars alot. If the thought ever crosses your mind that you "might purchase the car after the lease"...do not lease! For most people, the mileage restrictions are the biggest issue. I drive 20,000+ miles a year so I could never lease.

I haven't had any problems with high-pressure tactics...but getting the price lower is usually the issue. Give them all the info they need to be convinced that you are a buyer and not a shopper. Then when they think you have settled on a price, ask for them to take more off. As long as what you are asking is reasonable and within their profit window, they now have to a) attempt to call your bluff or b) agree and put another sale on their white board. Always be prepared to walk away. From the sound of it, the walking away part hasn't been an issue.

Thanks everyone! It has been a long time coming for Cindy to get to pick out her own ride.
I have a few concerns about either financing or leasing still. I'm going to be on the phone to my credit union and a few alternate sources to get a clear picture.

The '07 require premium, the '08 suggest it but the '09 and '10s can use regular.
I found quite a tremendous list of TSBs for this vehicle also.

I think Cindy would be working and shuffling kids around the Cape enough to far exceed the lease miles. However, for what we want to pay monthly and how much car we can get for the $$, leasing is looking more attractive.

I was completely underwhelmed by the customer service at McGee in their 1200 degree sales floor. We were flabbergasted when the told us $18,999 and we explained they listed it online for $13 something. The credit guy comes over to tell us that was their COST they were advertising. I told him that's absurd. Then they wanted me to use their financing and they were WAY off base on the rate. They want $390 for document prep? 16,900 plus taxes...

The car has a few noticeable blemishes on the exterior. Paint damage on hood, scrapes in the door edges, a few scratches on the body panels and roof. The rear hatch interior is damaged with scrapes and scuffs and one nasty gouge. The best part is the miles are so low...

Just my experience driving an 07 sport for two years, 30,000+ miles:

On a 2007, Premium is not neccesarily needed. I mean, if in 2008 it became "recommended" although the engine stayed the same, what is the difference? And then again in 2009 it says "87 octane okay" but the engine stays the same... It is better to use premium, but I wouldn't let that stop you from purchasing or putting in 87 octane.

My CX-7 (well, I gave it to my parents) just underwent the TSB for the VVT actuator. Just throwing that out there as well--40,000 miles.

Sticker on mine new was 27,000 I think...so 17,000 sounds reasonably to me, but push for something in the 15's and maybe you'd be getting a really good deal! Good Luck!

the faux woodgrain isn't too bad. Looks like they did a good job applying the stickahs. The cow catcher is a toss up. I thought it was going to look horrendous but it isn't that bad. I wish my car had one of those on it after the latest parking lot hit-and-run.

inching closer towards getting this done...

17K for a lightly used '08 or $20K for brand new?

Thats only a 3k difference for a now 3 year old car (2011 are out). Thats crazy if you ask me (unless they are totally different models and trims).

If possible, pony up the extra cash and go new. Warranty + no worries about buying someone else's problems (which is possible with any used car purchase). Plus I would think Mazda has worked out a few things and you won't have the TSB issues the previous model had.
