weird sounds

I'm hearing a high pitch squeeling/squeeking sound upon starting my car and backing out of my driveway (or elsewhere). I especially notice it while the windows are down. Brake pads? Sometimes I think it could also be exhaust related, as I also ocassionally hear some kind of exhaust rattle (sounds a little like a snare drum). Vague, I know, but anybody have similar experiences and figure out what it was?

Thanks,

Mine does this occasionally. I've narrowed it down to my PS belt slipping. I sprayed some belt non-slip product on it and it stops. It seems to happen more frequently on colder mornings. I'll replace the belt before winter.

Can you stop the sound by applying the brakes or pushing in/letting out the clutch?

Try these things the next time and you should be able to tell better where the noise is coming from.

I don't think it's the belts. I believe I might have 2 seperate sounds - one from the wheel, one from the exhaust. I can hear the wheel one while backing out of my driveway, and feel it's something rubbing on one of the rear rotors b/c the faster I go, the more/faster I hear it. I looked at my rear rotors and one of them has a line going around it, as if something (besides the pad) is rubbing. The pad, on the other hand, seems to have plenty of life left (at least the outside pads). The exhaust sound I hear when I rev the engine a little bit while engaging in first gear, like when a light turns green, etc. I'll have to dig deeper.
