Clutch Kit for 06 Speed 6

Hi there - this is my first post on the forum. As the title indicates I have an 06 Speed 6 with 98,000 km on it. Aside from the fact that its in getting the turbo replaced right now (boom05) they also informed me that the clutch has about 10% left.

I drive only on the street and drive fairly aggressively from time to time on country roads when no one is around but the car is typically a daily driver and I have no intention of bringing it to the track.

My question is - should I buy an aftermarket clutch kit - and if so are there any recommendations. It sounds like the flywheel needs to be replaces as they don't machine them on the Speed 6.

Any advice is appreciated.

Who told you the clutch had 10% left? Getting it replaced is an expensive job, so you're better off waiting until it is actually slipping. I've got 60K miles on my car, mostly suburban driving with occasional rush-hour stop and go...my clutch feels fine.

Typical drivers should get 100+ k miles out of a clutch. The only exception being drivers who get stuck in stop-and-go traffic every day.

There is really no way for them to know you have 10% left. They are trying to rip you off.

Who says the flywheel cant be machined? Anything can be machined with the right equipment.

Maybe find another mechanic/dealer?

This is good info in general, I didn't know there was no way to tell that there was 10% left on the clutch.

Whenever a mechanic claims you need to replace a part or fluid, always ask them to show you.
If they refuse to show you, then something is up.

Yeah, and the trick with the clutch is that they can't show you without dropping the tranny. So if it ain't slippin, you don't need a new one.

How do you know if it is slipping? Drive slow in a high gear (20mph in 3rd or 4th for example). Let the clutch out completely and you should be at low RPMs. Floor the accelerator pedal. If the engine revs high really quickly without the car accelerating then you've got a failing clutch. If the car slowly accelerates and engine rpms simply rise with speed, your clutch is fine.

Thanks

I totally agree with your input. I have no intention of replacing it until it actually starts slipping. I didn't believe the dealer either.

Having said that - I'm wondering when it does go if there are better after market options that would suit the way I use the car or if I should stick with the stock clutch.

Sorry for reviving an old thread. Good thing you did give in to what the deal told you because as long as your clutch is not spongy and you can still start your car I believe you don't need a clutch kit replacement.
