The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

i'm leaving this one as a surprise for phen's cookout if i get it

i gots a few suprises for mine for the cookout, phen and evan will know but i wont tell/show anyone else til the cookout haha

I need more monies to buy stuff... parts are so expensive it's unreal! I think the protege has some of the cheapest and best parts you can buy to totally customize your car on a budget--and at the same time it is not a riced out honda civic.

Hopefully in 10 years the MS3 and Mazda3 will be the same way, but for now--insane

MS3 / Mz3 won't be that way until another company puts out a car and the magazines proclaim it to be the best hot hatch / import of the year like what happened with the MS3. Then, the idiot ricers will leave our folds and bother other people.

with the money i've spent, i don't know if that's true, and i haven't done that much

I wouldn't say Mazdas are inexpensive to mod, in general. They just aren't Hondas which are dime a dozen and therefore have a huge aftermarket following driving prices down form competition and economies of scale...

On that note, I'm sort of on a kick with getting my car aesthetically pleasing. My car was not in good shape this last winter, and now after a lot of work and still having ongoing plans, I have a sort of path/idea for what I'm trying to do, now.

I really want one of iSport's rear window spoilers/visors, but they are $350 shipped... Pretty insane for this little thing, IMO. But they do look damn good and I don't want a trunk spoiler.

Also a rear diffuser, but no one makes one for the protege, so this is taking some additional planning, measuring and what not. Anyone have measurements of a 2G eclipse rear bumper they can get me? I've found 2 rear diffusers that will work and not break the bank too bad... 1 for an FD & one for a 2G eclipse that could work with a little finagling.

I thought you had a bunch of stuff waiting to be put on?

Looking at exhaust prices, (cat-back exhaust, nothing fancy), protege is $50 to 100 (or more!) dollars cheaper than the on sale price of a MS3 exhaust!

True, some of the isport and stuff i've read in the Group Buys is pretty expensive, but definitely nice looking! I dunno, I guess I', just a poor college student who makes 8 bucks an hour working 20 hours a week and has a 300 car payment.......I want stuff, but it's hard....

I've got $1000 burning a hole in my pocket now, though!!!!!

Haha, college student as well. But I'm on co-op right now making decent money (for me, atleast!!! (lol2)) So, I have a little expendable income... I have a lot of stuff always going on lately, lol. New hood & trunk 2 weeks ago, fitting HIDs into my foglights this weekend, gonna wrap my roof with black vinyl sitting in my room, front lip is in the works, rear strut bar is on the way, haha...

I told you, I have a problem, that was not a joke... I could make a list of everything I've done since March, and it would be a stupid long list. I don't really want to, because I would probly get a little sick to my stomach. (boom08) Maybe later I'll make a list of what I've done in the last 3 months, lol.

Haha! Yeah. I mean, I don't have anything major done to my car, and I want to do it. For example: wheels, suspension, FMIC, Tune.....something!

Or I could add a couple small parts that don't cost as much, but are not as impressive either: Short Shifter, Bypass valve, I want a TowPlate....etc

But who is like, "that guys car is soooo tricked out with 20 $50 parts!"

And I am about to hit 60,000, which means major tuneup time. I need this car to last at least 100,000 miles and is paid off before she blows....

For that bolded section, I recommend no engine mods. No problems.

Mine will be paid off in October. (yippy)

And it's all about the small things. A lot of little stuff adds up to a unique car...

Well, a few of these things are pending and will be finished/installed over the next month, but this is my rough mod list:

Tokico Illuminas, RS*R Race Springs, Hubcentric Spacers (15mm), MP3 RH, Muteki Lugs, Hankook Evo K110, RB Sway-bars, Energy Suspension Bushings, OBX Camber Bolts, GT Spec Front Strut Bar, Ebay Rear Strut Bar, AWR Motor Mounts (70 duro), Exedy Stage 1 Clutch, Redline MT90, B&M Short Shifter, CS Urethane Shifter Bushings, CS Bronze Oil Shifter Bushings, Skunk2 Shift Knob (550g), NGK Wires & Plugs (zfr5f-11), Custom CF SRI, NSN Thermal I/M Spacer, OBX Header, SLS Mid-pipe, RB Cat-back, CS Exhaust Hangers, Prosport Oil Pressure, Volt, Narrowband Gauges, Prosport Sandwich Plate, Samco Radiator Hoses, Optima Red-Top, Raptor Battery Terminals & Wires, Panasonic HU, Hella Supertones, 5000k HID Lo-Beam, 3000k HID Fog Lights, Aluminum ADP, DG Hood, DG Grille, XC Trunk, Black Satin Roof Vinyl, Modified CD Front Lip, Weathertech Window Visors, Tint (35%)

I think I'm gonna enter MOTM for the hell of it in ~September...

Rear diffuser = pointless on a Protege.

Just as pointless as it is on most other cars... It's primarily for aesthetics, as I said before. Although weaksauce is convinced his car feels more planted @ highway speeds with his diffuser... He has the one I posted above for FD's on his MX-6.

Ya, both are on hold currently, iSport guys seem a little pretentious like their s*** don't stink kinda thing... They came to us about making parts, and now they are threatening leaving the forums or something, because there hasn't been a huge demand for their overpriced parts... They'd rather sell 3 pieces @ high prices vs. 10+ @ a reasonable price where their margins would be greater by sellign @ volume vs. high price. (shrug)

The MSM has a rear diffuser looking rear lip. For aesthetics, that's all you need really.

For a rear diffuser to be functional, it has to start like... near the middle of the car... and the car generally needs to have a flat bottom. But hey, what do I know?

Haha, I don't disagree, bro! I told you, if I do it, it will be for aesthetic purposes... The rear bumper sits so high on the BJ's, lol. Next spring/summer will come the fun stuff. Fidanza flywheel, hopefully new wheels, & booooost. ;)

yeah what's up with that?

Indeed. The entire body sits high on BJs. I was curious so I measured ground to pinchweld on my MSM and on my P5, and Evan's P5 for that matter. Both P5's are lowered on Blues and S-techs. The MSM is about a half an inch lower based on that measurement than the Proteges... and the MSM is on stock suspension.
