Hypertech Max Energy Sport CAI Update Now Available!

i've been following this thread for a while, simply out of curiousity for alternative tuning solutions. I'm having a hard time finding the appeal of this tune. For what you get, it's not cheap, has code bugs like other ots maps, and seems to not be very well calibrated to intakes from discussions I've read about bad ltft's. I can appreciate the ease of use with the "set it and forget it" type flash, but this isn't a Ronco food dehydrator, it's a car! For the price, even at 375.00 or whatever they can be found for at a discount, you don't have the ability to tune the ots maps or even monitor. It seems to me that regardless of how good the tuners are at Hypertech, the fact is that they are not tuning your specific car, which will most likely not behave the same way as the one they are using to create the maps.

I am certainly not hating on the product, so please don't take this the wrong way. I'm just curious why this product would be purchased over another one that costs marginally more and has a ton more functionality.
It all depends what your performance goals are for the MS3. If you have built motor, bigger turbo or any extensive engine mods, then a professional tune would be required for the car. In this case, the HyperTech tune would fall short of your requirements. If an individual has a few bolt-ons and is looking for a good performance boost, the HyperTech tune would the perfect enhancement.

It's just hard for me to put myself in the shoes of those who are cool with bolting a few parts and calling it a day, because I've never been able to to that! I'm sure that want for more contributed to losing my first engine. I know there are people out there who know when to say when, and I respect the hell out of that. And believe me, I'm not claiming the AP is perfect. My AP has been shipped out for repair 3 times in the last 4 months! I just enjoy (and currently need) the ability to tune through it due to having an 8.8/1 engine with bt. Too bad the SB sets you back about $1500 with the harness and flashes! I have faith that Cobb will figure out the load cap issue eventually, which will be nice because I'm clipping mine like crazy. Good luck with the HT flash!

That's cool. I understand where you're coming from. You are hardcore when is comes to mods and the ability to retune at anytime, is paramount to realizing your performance benchmarks.

As I get older I start to more accurately assess when I'm happy and leave it at that point, rather than the course I took over and over as a younger person, never satisfied and always wanting more performance than I could afford.

I think the hypertech guys have more tables at there disposal than we do with ATR...hence making the tune more advanced that an average user's with ATR...and although my LTFTS flux between +5.5 and +8.6, it is driving fast! I feel more confident with their tune than with mine and my limited tables tuning with ATR.

Simply put:

HardCore = Professional Tune = Big bucks

DIY basic = Hypertech = Very reasonable

Im not seeing 17-18 lbs of boost anywhere? I can't really tell the difference between the stock(boost readings) and the HT tune on the boost gauge...Im seeing like 12-13lbs in 1st & 2nd and about 15lbs in third @5- 6k maybe can't remember exactly, could be less.. I haven't had a chance to run through the other gears... but I am getting tons of torque tho. My Boost gauge could be crapping out, seems like its been off by a pound or so right from day one.

hmmm that's odd bro, I'm seeing 17-19psi on my DH, sometime it spikes to 20 which isn't good but hey I'll take overboost for a sec or so no biggie. have you checked all your hose clamps? also it looks like your not running a aftermarket BPV, the stock could be leaking that could be the issue...

Besides the obvious checking for boost leaks....What's the weather like and have you done any timed runs before and after? That'll tell you if you're making progress, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Pretty sure theres no leaks going on, BPV is probably the culprit I think...haven't had a chance to do any time runs yet. What BPV are you guys using? Im thinking I might go with the Forge.

Forge is nice, I ran 1st gen initially and it was sweet. you could tell immediately the difference compared to stock. Then I went to HKS and it was very good, but couldn't get used to the coughing sound, so I went with the Turbosmart Dual Port and couldn't be happier, thus I don't run it 50/50 anymore just recirc only and still love it, plus it's nice to be able to adjust the valve when needed.

I don't really think the difference between a COBB sri and a CPE nano is gonna make any noticeable difference. BUT someone donate a cobb to them for christ sakes.

I just replaced my ProSport electric boost gauge, with an AutoMeter "Cobalt Series" mechanical boost gauge. I had the same readings you had with ProSport. It's now reading 17-18 psi peak, with a quick spike to 19.5 psi ,per the AutoMeter gauge.

I figured it might be the Boost gauge....Is your Autometer a 52mm? Tonight with the 65 deg. temps in 4th cruising then to WOT it hit 16lbs on the gauge...my car feels like it gets to a certain point in the upper RPM range and then it takes off again, almost as if it gets another surge of boost, I guess its probably from some of the restrictions I still have with the stock exhaust, TIP,BPV, intercooler etc: Anybody else notice this??

If you have the stock CBE, there are no significant restrictions until you get above 300 whp. The restrictions are upstream in the downpipe and the two cats. If you think you have an exhaust restriction affecting your tune, that is where to focus. Changing the CBE will net very little, if anything. It flows better than the K04 turbo can release exhaust with the wastegate wide open, IMHO.

Oh, BTW: mechanical boost gauges are the way to go. Direct measurement of boost pressure is typically much more reliable than trusting a pressure sensor. I never thought the problem would have been the stock BPV. People are having far more problems with the aftermarket BPV's than with the stock units, which can and do hold boost very well to levels higher than it is safe to take the K04.
