Buick Regal GS sports sedan brings performance to the TriShield brand

yeah that is the GS i wanna see here. Killer. Seen it on Top Gear, fell in love. I can imagine the cost though.

yeah, and that's the problem, once you go into a certain price point, it's no longer worth looking at, just get the proven bimmer or audi

Would make an excellent MS6 replacement for those that would actually buy american, IF the price was right

BMW and Audi money.

but worlds cheaper to maintain and repair.

and 35k? you aren't getting much BMW or audi for that money.

you are looking at a 1 series (smaller, overpriced), an a3 (save your money, buy a vw gti), or a BASE a4 (boring styling, overall meh)

I was just at my BMW center this morning which had a number of 328i and 328xi on the lot going for around 35K.

Yeah, but they're 328's. You're comparing a base 3 series to a top of the line Regal. If the Regal is $34-35k you could have the choice of an AWD, 6 speed manual, turbo 4, sport suspension, and brembo's, an 'entry level' Caddy CTS with a 300 hp V6, or an 'entry level' 328 BMW. Plus, if I wanted a 3 series I would only buy the 335.

not to mention the cost of long term maintenance on the BMW. Overall cost of ownership is much lower on the buick.

328s are available with both AWD and 6spd manual. Who needs a turbo when you have a fuel efficient smooth running I-6? Not a big deal if the 328is do not have sport suspension and brembos standard. BMWs standard suspension handle very well and the stock brakes are awesome. My BMW is a non sport suspension which handles better then my former 05 Subaru Legacy GT Limited. From everything I've read the GS is rumored to have 255hp which is just 15hp more then a 328i's 230hp. Which is not really a big difference. As for the CT-S it to large to really compete with the BMW 3 series but is more of a 5 series contender. So 5 series size for 3 series pricing.

Alot of manufacturers have high long term maintenance. Do you want me to get started on a couple of manufacturers that I've owned with very high long time maintenance? What it comes right down to is that the Regal is just a rebodied Saab 9-3. How reliable are Saabs?

But 295 lb-ft of torque.

Not even close. The Saab 9-3 was built on the same platform as the OLD Chevy Malibu (pre-08 model year, Epsilon platform), although I'm told the only parts they shared were the rear lower control arms. The 08 and later Malibu could be considered an Epsilon 1.5.

The new Regal is on the Epsilon II platform and will be the second car in the US to use it. The Buick LaCrosse being the first.

I just don't get the brand loyalty with the BMW guys. They're nice, but not "OMG end of the world!" nice. I see too many people trying to find a replacement for the MS6 and go too far upmarket. This would be a good lateral move if they choose to.
