brand new CorkSport SRI installed in 2005 Mazda3s 4-door

this is my third aftermarket intake. Hopefully it will be the last. The (F2) cold air intake I had first sucked up just enough water (I was at high RPM when I hit a puddle on an expressway ramp) to short out my MAF sensor. Total cost, including rental was $600. I then replaced it with the Simota SRI with carbon fiber heat shield. It corroded to the point I could not separate the filter from the carbon fiber heat shield and therefore could not properly clean it. It then, due to inadequate excess play in the MAF connector wires with this intake installed, yanked the wires out of the connector. Cost to repair: $600 (and I got lucky that my performance shop found a cheap wiring harness--Mazda list price was $1500).

This past Sunday I replaced the Simota (which never struck me as the highest quality of intakes) with the brand new, yet to be properly released, CorkSport SRI for the first gen Mazda3 (2004-2009). I have learned my lesson with intakes: Never will I use a true cold air intake again (at least not without a water shield like K&N provide with their Typhoon); and I will always buy from good, reputable shops who are familiar with my car's make and model. I've purchased from CorkSport before, and I trust them as competent Mazda people.

Anyway, here are a couple of photos. I was especially impressed with the MAF housing. Much higher quality than the Simota, and clearly more thought went into the proper design of it. Installation was brainlessly easy, but it would be more difficult if you're going from the stock intake to this one, I suppose.

Dang that is nice looking, I haven't gotten mine yet since they haven't released it yet. You must have been pestering them. LOL JK. Anywho how does it feel compared to the other intakes you have used? I have been following this closely and would like to get one if it is worth it.

Thanks,
Josh

Yes, I was pestering quite a bit, because my Simota was continuing to cause problems, and I didn't want any more $600 repair bills! I don't notice a difference in power, but then I didn't expect to. They're all going to be within a few HP of each other. It seems like it's a tad louder sometimes than the Simota was, but that's not surprising since it has no heat shield all around it. I think Jason at CorkSport had said they were considering offering a heat shield for this intake. To me, it's the quality and the fact that I trust CorkSport to make good Mazda performance parts more than generic companies like Simota. Mazda is all CorkSport does.

Thanks for the post up about the intake Chibana.

We will have these intakes available on our webpage on May 24th for purchase. I will post up a link when they are ready to go.

Derrick do you have any numbers (ie performace info) yet for the intake, I have had contact with you, and am waiting for the official release.

You're welcome, Derrick.

After having put some real miles on the car with the intake (and with the EGR hose properly connected to the engine!), I can say that the car is running much smoother, and *seems* a bit peppier, especially at higher RPM. This is probably largely due to the fact that the old Simota filter was absolutely filthy (I've never seen an intake filter look that nasty). Like I posted before, I was not able to separate the filter from the carbon fiber surround the last time I cleaned it before winter, so it got a half-assed cleaning then. I also noticed while installing the CorkSport that the MAF sensor was dirty. The car runs better than it has in a long time, and I like the sound, too. It's not overly loud, but I can definitely hear a bit of intake whoosh.

How much are they going for? I would be interested as well...
Also do you have to remove the bumper to take out the stock intake parts?

We will have the intake posted up for sale on monday next week.
