What have you done to your MSP today?

01 was the only year of the MP3, much like 03 was the only year of the MSP.

Also, I don't think the MP3 had a different shifter diameter... so far as I'm aware, all the protege shifters/knobs are swappable.

completely false. A bulge seat is a different design used by select hondas...

If you go to just about any racing parts/accessories website and look at their descriptions of their extended "tuner" lugnuts you will see them described as bulge seats. The accompanying pictures have seats that look just like the seats on the orange Vision lugnuts he linked to. So if I am wrong, lots of online dealers are also wrong (which is possible, I suppose). In truth, I believe the "bulge" they are talking about has less to do with the taper of the lugnut itself and is referring instead to the flared/flattened shoulder just above the taper, sort of like a flange nut or flange bolt. Its the part that would keep your socket from bottoming out against the wheel when you tighten the lugnut. However, most "bulge" lugnuts have a much steeper taper (closer to 60 degree angle) than stock.

As far as the MP3 shifter thread/pitch goes, the info came from the Protege FAQ page online whichas been a very reliable guide for me for the last year and a half http://www.protegefaq.net/transmission.html

^O you know why mine is not different? I have a short shifter, haha I forgot about that... I was wondering if my mazdaspeed knob had been re threaded, but this makes more sense now... So I guess I won't be able to verify this when I get my new knob.

And btw Wagon, I am offended by your characterization of my post as "completely false". Even if I am off base about the use of the word "bulge" (and I don't believe I am) the lion's share of the information contained in my post is truthful and accurate.

The pic here shows two new McGard lugnuts. On the left is the traditional "acorn" lugnut. On the right is a "bulge" lugnut with the flatter seating edge above the taper. Acorn taper is 48 degrees; Bulge lugnut taper is 60 degrees. And for the record, the bulge lugnut on the right is the oe replacement lugnut for a Jeep Cherokee; not a Honda.

well random note, after much deliberation, I have decided to get the custom color match kit for caliper paint to repaint my red calipers to spicy orange! can't wait lol gotta find the color code and order it this weekend after I sell some things

And the fact that they don't have LEDs, colored in any way shape or form, or aren't called Tuner lugs ... means they aren't for a Honda either :)

Since you're in Kentucky, you don't have to worry about rust.
You can basically go with anything.
I went with forged aluminum lugs because I needed something that wouldn't rust and came in a spline drive. So I went with these.

$115.00 for black lug nuts!? wow..

SeR_Cyclops, were you after plain ole aluminum lugs like the stock nuts?

Forged aluminum ... they won't rust and they are friggen light. I spent $32 three years in a row on new lugs because of rust and I got a better deal on those T1Rs, ended up being around 90-100 shipped I think.

ahh, got it livelyjay. We don't have that rust issue too much in these here parts..got any pics of installed aforementioned nuts?

Would open ended black lug nuts look good on the stock RHs? They would match my car.... The reason im asking i don't want something that stands out too much, i don't want to pay 60 bucks or more and then hate them.
