Toggle switch near fuse block

Ok, so I started on doing the power window mod, and I got the panels off that cover the fuse block. So I'm about to undo the bolt and I notice this toggle switch just dangling there, looking very out of place. It was in the off position, but I have no idea what it does. Is this something factory? Or did the previous owner wire in some weird stuff?

There are other clues in the car that the previous owner tried to do stuff himself but failed. Body panels put in wrong, bulbs inserted upside down etc.

Hah, my brother was bitching at me today because he couldn't close the passenger window when I had the keys out. I'll have to do this mod :D

Regarding the switch, if it's a little SPST switch (like this) then it's probably for one of those annoying anti-theft systems. Like obiwan177 said, turn it on and try to start the car. If it doesn't start you'll probably have to do something like pressing the brake pedal or putting on your seatbelt.

Yeah, I'll try that right aways. I followed the wiring and went into a stock plug into some sort of box up behind the steering wheel. Makes sense that it's an antitheft thing.

Sounds like it's for the factory alarm, I bet the previous owner installed it himself. There is a bypass switch for the factory alarm under the steering wheel.

So I did the power window mod by following this excellent how-to. I don't understand why Mazda didn't make it like that in the first place...

Thank you obiwan177 for bringing it to my attention, I wouldn't have ever thought it would be that easy.

It is the programming/valet switch is for the "factory" alarm. The alarm is added after the vehicle was made, not part of the vehicles electronics like newer cars.

Just had my P5 for a week... luv it. What mod did you do on the power windows? I thought PW were standard on P5s

Thanks

I have power windows, but the mod is so that you can use them even when your car is turned off. That way if your forget to roll up your windows you don't have to turn your car on again, and all that.
