Isn't it?

Redline makes some great oil but it's a bit on the pricey side. When I first got my MSP I did a ton of research and the K&N oil filter with mobil1 synthetic was the popular combo.
I've since switched to Kendall sythetic blend it seems to be a nice oil. I end up burning less of it, and it's only about $2.00 a quart at O'reilly's versus double that for any other synthetic blend. I could change it more frequently and still be on top!!
The guys at my O'Reilly's have built import racers, one has a super sick boosted civic hatch, not some ricer BS, and he runs Kendall.

I use royal purple with k&n filter. I change it every 5K. Mobil 1 is good also, you get what you pay for with most motor oils. Check for the weekly specials at the auto parts stores. You can get like 5 quarts of castrol synthetic or mobil one with a premium oil filter for arround $30. I charge $55 for a mobil 1 oil change at my shop. And $69 for royal purple.

Why does everyone use special oil? I just use 10W-30 or 5w-30 Walmart brand. It comes in a blue bottle for the life of me i cant remember the name right now and i just use a house brand filter. Most of these oils and filters are made close to the same way. I can understand using like a synthetic blend or a fully synthetic but most oil is just oil.

BTW I change it every 3k on the dot and I have never had any problems I think as long as you change it regularly you will be fine.

i know what oil your talking about^ i used the non syn version of it to break in my motor
i cant remember what its called either, but it wasnt too bad, didnt really notice a difference in anything when i switched to mobil 1, i just like mobil 1 lol

Super tech comes from wal mart in a blue gallon. I sell it for 19.99 with filter of course.

A lot of reading, but some of the information may help you understand why synthetics are preferable, especially with turbo / supercharger applications, and when you're not 100% sure of what conditions are present inside your engine.

The last sentence in the "VW / Audi sludge problems" section says a lot about why people prefer synthetics, whether or not they drive a VW or Audi.

mobil 1 with whatever walmarts best-looking filter is. a 5 quart jug is like 19 dollars, thats not a whole lot more than conventional oil.

HAve always heard great things about Pennzoil Platnium. What to use it for my next change. Wix filters or Purolator filters are really good and make filters for others like mobil1, K&N and Napa.

if i recall correctly, most vw/audi cars that have problems with sludge are DI motors, so they dont have anything to clean all that blow by off the valves, so it just stays there and gunks up

synthetic is a no brainer though, i dont know many people who use dino oil anymore, and i dont even know many places that sell it lol

I don't know anywhere that doesn't stock conventional oil. Most of the time, the average person uses conventional, and I see no problem with that depending on how THEY drive. Not everyone is a car enthusiast who like to go fast and push their car to the limit.

Personally, I use Mobil1 5w-20 Fully synthetic with a Mobil1 Extended-Performance filter.
