This might of been posted, but i can't seem to find it

Just wondering has anyone had any experience with the following

Kumho Ecsta AST 225/40/18 at tirerack for $89 with an xl rating..

or

Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum 225/40/18 $110 from tirerack with again a XL rating

Both seem to have reviews of like 25xxx miles + and where this is my 3rd set of tires and i only have 37xxx KM on my car i want something thats going to last me quite some time. Now mind you i have a set of Federal SS 595 on now and they still have quite some tread left but seeing i got new wheels i thinks its a good idea to get new tires too.

AWD eats tires, so nothing's going to last as long as its warranty. I didn't try either of those Kumhos, but on my 6S I had ASXs and loved them.

Main reason for new tires is that the ones i have on now are really loud, almost like a wheel bearing is gone/going. Did you have any issues with the ASX????

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 AS/C. They have been incredible so far. Quite, and track straight. Although I have only put about 8k miles on them, the treads still look brand new. They did great in the snow as I had no problems getting around in 8" plus. I know they are All Season and won't have quite the grip as a High Performance summer tire, they do fine for what I need them for. They were about 100.00 USD per tire

Did you buy them locally? or online? Cheapest i can get locally around here is like 800 plus installing them, which turns into a expensive set of tires.

I bought them from Tirerack.com I could barely find any locally, and the only ones they had locally were like Pirelli which are $$$.

Because the MS6 came with tires that were rated 93Y (located after the tire size), you should go with a tire that at least matches the load rating--in this case 93--the Y is the speed rating.

If you go lower than 93, you affect the load handling capability of the tire, and this will also be a softer-riding tire (as soft as a 40-series can be that is.) Technically, if you go higher than 93, it might make for a harder-riding tire (again, a 40-series tire ride that is.) You won't mistake the ride for a Michelin X radial, that's for sure.

Obviously you won't be going 186 mph, but that's not the point. This letter also describes the ability of the tire to deal with dissipation of heat. I'm certain that you don't have high ambient outdoor temps to deal with in Newfoundland, at least not like we have in Arizona.

All that being said, I would go for the LX platinum, if that's your choice. You've mentioned that price is a major consideration, and if that's the case, the LX will be much closer to spec than the AST. You could also consider the ASX--again, it's much closer to spec as well. I've had the ASX, and they were fine for me. I have Eagle GT's now, and they are even better, albeit pricier.

Probably too much to read, but just trying to help.

Ahhh thanks for that i never realized what that did mean, thought it was just the XL rating is what i was looking for when coming to the load rating. Right now the federal tires i have was 92Y so its pretty much matched for the car, just lucked into that because all i did was call around and find any tire i could find that was 225/40/18.

Basically what i'm looking for is a tire thats decently price and that will handle my everyday driving and of course get a decent life out of them.

**** snipped **** . . . Just wondering has anyone had any experience with the following Kumho Ecsta AST 225/40/18 at tirerack for $89 with an xl rating.

Check out this recent tire test / comparison; its not the same Kumho tire you mention, but it may be of interest.

good hunting.

Found a place here locally that sells Nankang NS-II for dirt cheap like $110 a tire. Been reading reviews on them and seems to be alot of good reviews for a all purpose use tire, anyone ever hear tell of them? or try them? Seems to be the right rating for our cars.

Same spot also had:
- Nexon 3000's for $155 each
- Firenza ST-08 for $140 eadh

Also another spot had the Cooper Zeon ZPT for 800 installed.

Or Sumo Akina ST-09 From 1010tires.com 600 shipped to my door?

Anyone have any thoughts on any of these??? Selling my stock rims for 700 so little more in my budget then i thought.
