CSRT4- MS3's arch nemesis? The new car *long post*

Well, because LovinMyMS3 decided to act like a prick I looked into him and he was a previously banned member under a new user ID. So, because of no one's fault but his own, he's gone again.

Hey thank you kindly.

" It's much larger inside and out (which, for me, is a good thing)"
well i dont think this is so true since i have a MS3 and my brother-in-law has a csrt4 and the ms3 bigger. we seated the same people in both cars and there was more room in the MS3.

ive drove both of these cars stock for stock ms3 is faster...he has a mopar cai/mopar bov/ and mopar stage 1 and it made a WORLD of a difference..kindof like when you got a cobb ap for a ms6 you can feel the dif.. i mean stock he only ran a 14.9 lol im sure youll do better but that was his best time after those few mods he ran a 14.1 ive seen him race a srt-8 charger and beat it...the srt-4 engines are bullet proof the new ones are built alot better then the old ones so i can imagine what these things will take...enjoy the car i like it throw a t3/t4 50 trim in that thing lol

Thanks for posting this- I was just looking for something similar to see which was larger- as the CSRT4 "feels" larger inside. However from the numbers they really aren't that much different. The biggest lead either of them have over the other is Cargo capacity with the CSRT4 showing a lead of 5 cu/ft.

Maybe it's due to the driving position- the CSRT4 is indeed high whereas the Mazda feels lower slung. However the headroom doesn't reflect this.

The best I've heard stock was 13.7 and it happens to be a guy from my area who ran that time at my local track- Atco. As with the Mazdaspeed3 the biggest challenge for the entire race (as with most cars) is getting out of hole properly and really trying to master than fwd launch. Slicks help tremendously. I've seen 1.8 60's w/ slicks on FWD cars.

Right now I'm doing Mopar Stage 1, intake, DP, suspension (springs, sways, strut bar), and patiently awaiting AGP's big turbo kit due to be released sometime during/before summer!

Awesome read! I like these cars....woohoo for blaze red! I had a blaze red neon and loved that color

Yeah my favorite color was Silver- but maybe that's the laziness in me (always looks clean) but the red is truly a spectacle when the sun is shining. In the shade or a cloudy day the red looks almost like a flat maroon.

Have you seen the 2010 MS3 Red- it looks equally amazing. Brighter than the CSRT's Inferno Red Pearl and lots of flake/pearl. That's the one thing I didn't like about my True Red MS3. It's an amazingly vibrant color but completely flat without an ounce of flake.

Hardly a surprise -- he could sure put out some weird, ignorant crap.

Nice looking car and I hope your enjoying it. Not quite my cup of tea though. I like that fact the the ms3 has a stealthy look to it where as that you can tell its an SRT

yea that red is a good red. i think the ms3's true red is a little overboard, and in too much ferrari territory (meaning only ferraris should have that color)

but for some reason to me it seems like you have an unusual choice of cars. not bad or anything, something just throws me off. maybe it was the srt6 cuz it's in its own category. maybe you can explain it better, but it's almost like youre stuck in the hot-hatch category, but it seems like at the same time you should have the finances to get something that is a little more upgraded and not straining the engine so much (ie any turbo). like you should be getting a g37 or an s5 or something, can't put my finger on it

i don't know, maybe im just looking too far into it

Just cuz you can afford a luxury car doesn't mean you can't roll in a sport compact....not dissing just merely giving a thought

Well, truth be told- hatches are my absolute favorite design/layout. Maybe I should have been born in Europe as it seems sleek sedans and coupes are the overwhelming favorites in the US.

What I was looking for was another hot hatch. Something that had both performance and utility. To be honest- when I went to the dealer I was planning on purchasing this car in ADDITION to our other 2 cars. They offered a good trade on my SRT6 and my wife was really upset that I was even considering buying a 3rd car- as we are trying to save.

While I can technically "afford" a more luxo car- god knows I paid for 3 cars for a few years- truth is I've never been as intrigued with the hatches in this segment (sans the old BMW M-Coupe hatchback- love that thing!).

Plus part of the excitement for me is the build. Right now the CSRT4 feels like an absolute dog compared to my SRT6 however I'm not worried at all. The mods are all available to unlock it's potential. After all, Mopar Stage 1 (alone) will at 28whp and 46wtq, not bad for just a tune. All in all it's easy to get mid 330whp/340wtq with 3 bolt ons.

Finally the best part about it- a car payment just north of $300/month and only $700/year to insure. Doesn't break the bank- which will allow me and my wife to save, all the while having something I can be an "enthusiast" about.

Congrats on the car man....I alwas have tons of respect for the Dodge srt4 platform..either be neon or caliber..The engine and tranny are built strongly. Yeah you get cheaper interior parts and couple other things..but you get good performance....Looking over a few spec sheets and driver tests..here is the meat&potatoes of the Caliber-srt4

Weight 3248lb
Horsepower 285@5700 rpm
Torque 265@ 2000 rpm
0-60 5.8-6.2
1/4 mile 13.8-14.6 *driver mod*

So stock wise I would say its pretty evenly matched with the ms3. With a slight advantage going towards the 3, The gear ratio and driver would prabaly decide that race. BUT in terms of modding for power oh yeah....that Caliber kicks some booty.. Pt performance is right up the road from me and they got a 600 hp that runs really well..and anyone whos been in the car tuner world for longer than a day knows that neon srt4's with 400-500 whp on stock blocks drive all day long and run and run and run. I would NOT feel that comfortable with that power on a stock ms3 engine..actrully would feel like im driving a ticking time bomb all the time lol..But then again 300@ the wheels for a fwd daily driver is good for me right now..As for looks..I prefer the speed..but think the Caliber looks mean ;) and I think we can all agree that interior quality is better in the speed. But once again great car for the money and im sure your gonna have TONS of fun in it. And its got some potential thats for sure (2thumbs)

Thank you- yeah I'm looking forward to getting it up to speed (no pun intended) with all the usual mods. Not sure how far I want to take it considering it'll be my daily but I have heard good things about the engine and how stout it is at handling big power numbers with stock internals. I wonder why- I don't think it's forged. It would be way over the 20k range for something like that.

just a thought, but if you want something to be a comfortable daily driver, don't ever mod it.

to me, and the population of the world as considered by any car company, "daily driver" is something that can just be driven and not really worried about. once you mod, you eventually start to worry about something. probably why the greatest cars in the world are hondas, cuz they are extremely low maintenence and strictly just gas and go

the greatest daily drivers with performance ever would have to be anything porsche...but i don't think there are many on this forum who can get one of those

but keeping with the thread...i saw an srt4 at deltech (delaware s***) the other night and i reallllllly wanted to park next to it amidst all the other open spaces for some reason. too bad that would have meant parking next to another car (i prefer spaces that no one wants to park next to because im paranoid like that)
