DDM Tuning Apexcone Raptor HID Kit - $30 plus shipping

The thing is, the current that the car provides for the DRL isn't enough to power the HIDs, so they do not turn on. I have to turn my setting to the highest in order for the HIDs to power on.

I do not want my HIDs on during the day, so during the day I leave my setting at 0 (all off), normally if I were to use halogens, they would be on at 50% brightness.

So my question is, would the current going the ballasts to power the DRLs to 50% brightness (which doesnt provide enough power to turn on the HIDs), would it harm the HIDs? :O hmhmhmhmhmhmh? :O

idk if underpowering them will hurt. im not sure. but id tend to think that you would wear the ballasts out faster

Get a relay harness, it will bypass the DRL's.

Yes but it will save you the cost of having to buy a replacement HID kit down the road, here is how I wired mine:

I have an aftermarket battery tie-down so yours might be slightly different

The relay is on the left, it comes with a bracket to bolt down wherever you want it

This isn't the cleanest install ever but everything is easily accessible in case anything happens.

Thanks for the pics and instructions, your P5 under the hood looks so much more badass than mine :(

I taped my hid on the passenger side where yours is , but a little put higher up to that wall there. And on the driver side, i zipped tied it to the coolant thing. hmmm

What do you mean by grounding to bare metal?

The engine bay is painted, you have to sand down a small area down to bare metal until it's silver so that the ground gets direct contact with the body, look at mine for reference.

If you don't sand it down your ground is pretty much pointless.

For now I'm turning the lights on before disengaging the parking break so they don't trigger drl. I'm gonna mod my harness when it gets warmer. There's a few diys out there from other cars that have drl

had my first misfire with the harness last night... turns out starting a car in single digit temps (I think my batt is starting to go as well) is enough voltage drain so that if you're stupid enough to fire HIDs right then... one doesn't go.

who knew? lol

Mine also didn't turn on, VERY dangerous.. I was driving to work at around 5:40 AM, pitch back, and i pulled out of my driveway.. driving.. decided to turn my HIDs on = NOTHING.. I had to stop the car, turn my thing to 0 setting, handbrake, turn it to highest setting.. HIDs come on... hand brake off... go!

So, if you don't turn on the HIDs witht he handbrake engaged, it will not go on :(

So I'm guessing if i'm driving on the highway, and it becomes dark, i have to pull my handbrake at 120km/h, drift out of control, turn my HIDs on, then release handbrake, and counter steer my drift, back straight lOL

if you pull the handbrake up one click, it will not send you spinning out of control. it won't even engage. I know guys that drove around like that daily on purpose to disable DRLs... lol

I was just joking around ;) hahaha but that's pretty smart

hook your high beam wires to the hids and remove the low beams. no high beams, but no drl?

^^^^that sounds like a reasonable solution, considering I've never had the need to use my high beams since installing hid's.

What are you talking about "setting"? Do you just mean turning your light switch to fully on?

And pardon me if this has been answered already, but doesn't the optional lighting harness eliminate the problem of the dreaded DRL flicker??

Going to install them in the wifey's MPV tomorrow as long as the weather isn't too cold.

Upon inspecting the contents of the box I found I got a battery harness for free?! I know I did not order one but contents include two bulbs, two ballasts and one thick ass bundle of wires twisty-tied together.

And may I ask how the hell am I supposed to lock these things in with the spring clip? Compared to my Techone bulbs the plastic housing on the bulbs are hella-thick.
