New Rims and Tires!

These are my new babies--Enkei EMK3, 17x7, e45 with 235/45 BFG super sport a/s tires. These tires are the best I've had on the car, even better than the summer re050s that were OEM.

I even painted my calipers red today. I'll put some mazdaspeed stickers on them when they come next week. I'll post more pics then.

what did u do with the tire presure sensors? im thinking about changing my rims too but i dont wonna mess with those sensors. trying to find out how to turn them off.(confused)

Word! The experts are the designers who build these cars. I have modified some of my cars in the past and always hated some AREA of their performance afterwards... yeah it may look... ahhhh DOPE afterwards, but the performance is always hindered somewhere in the spectrum. One of my work associates installed a CAI on his MS3 and loss a small but noticeable torque difference in the lower RPM ranges. These companies take everything into consideration when building these vehicles and just because there are aftermarket parts out there does not necessary mean there is a 100% gain across the board on them. I agree some of there personal MODs look really Cool, but just not the taste for all.

BFG also says not to mount the 225's on a 6.5 wheel. Its been done and tracked the piss out of with no problems.

Just because it can be done, it doesn't mean it should be. Running too wide of a tire (or too narrow of a wheel) will put more stress on the sidewalls and from my own experience, result in a slight loss of steering feel.

What this guy did (putting a 235/45R17 tire on a 17x7) is no worse than putting a 225/40R18 on the OEM 7" wide wheels...Is is optimal? Probably not. Is it "unsafe?" Not bloody likely. I have way more of a problem with people slapping uber-wide tires on 8.5" wheels with a +3* offset than I do with someone who chooses to mount a tire on a wheel that 0.5" out of the "recommended" wheel width.

I really liked these wheels and didn't really see the need to go wider. Since a 235 fits on a 7" rim, that was good for me. If you look closely, there is hardly any bulge at all. The Tire Rack wouldn't put them on, but I don't understand why not. it's really not a squeeze at all. The tire does not stick out beyond the face of the wheel (and the wheel doesn't stick out...).

(Before all you tire nazis come out of the woodwork--I don't care what you say. This is about grip and driving feel and it feels great and grips very well.)

No future suspension mods, as I have an 11 month old and will have one more coming sometime. That counts out big suspension mods. I do have a rear sway bar, but that's it.

None at all. These tires are the best out there for AS, hands down. The steering feel is better than stock. BFG sizes normally run narrow (these are narrower than the 225 Kumho ASXs I had.

They don't even stick out from the wheels! I don't understand why you guys are freaking out! Just chill. If you try and put a 235 or 245 on a 6" rim, then you're pushing it. 10mm out of spec is really not huge.

Would I do it again? Yep! No doubt in my mind at all.

Woooooah there, Tiger. I was just asking because I have kids and I'm sure they wouldn't mind if their dad made riding in the backseat more comfortable for them. That's why I was asking about the ride quality. To see if it was worth it going to 17 inch wheels.
