2004 Mazda Rx8
I just purchased a 2004 Mazda RX8 and I'm looking to buy a new exhaust system. I was looking at Borla and HKS and I really love the sound of the Borla exhausts. I could only find single side exhausts, does anybody know a company or could you link me to a double sided catback exhaust system preferably 3-4 inch with the Borla or HKS sound?

I would appreciate it greatly.
Thanks!

Congrats and welcome to the club. I might be a little biased, but I love my Racing Beat REV8 cat back. I've experienced many exhaust combinations for the RX-8, both driving and listening outside. To me the RB has the perfect tone, not too loud and raspy or boomy inside the cabin, just the right amount low burble.....that is until you get on it. At WOT it's music to my ears.

Check out my RX-8 blog link below for videos of this and other exhaust systems.

Both HKS and Bolrla make a cat back exhaust with two tips at the back. There are not any true "dual" (from the header back) systems. The Borla gives a nice deep tone as does the RB. The Borla and the RB system are sim in price too. It will come down to personal preference between those two. The corksport CBE that is linked in one of the other posts is also a great product if you can find it. None of these produce much of a gain in HP (you need a midpipe, cat delete or highflow cat), and the corksport and HKS single side are the lightest in case you are concerned about weight.

^Exactly. Although be aware that any midpipe replacement will throw a CEL and your exhaust will be almost twice as loud.

There are a few solutions for the CEL. You can either get a midpipe with a highflow cat, or get a Cobb AP which can mask the CEL. Adding a midpipe will definately make any exhaust louder though. Some like the sound and some don't.

I love the extra sound, and it is not too much IMHO. What is annoying is the increased gas smell coming from the midpipes lack of a cat. I have only had my midpipe for a few months, but I will be adding a highflow cat this winter.

The best advice is to try to hook up with some other RX8 owners in your area so that you can hear some of the exhaust options. You can hear them on youtube, but that can be very misleading.

Misleading indeed since you are listening to the sound of an exhaust through speakers, not to mention the recording quality. ;)

i love anything racingbeat as well. i've got the racingbeat FC turbo-back on my turbo II. it's an awesome exhaust and still pretty quiet compared to other exhausts because of how solid the construction is (heavy wall pipe, good resonator, etc.). i would recommend that over a borla because i like the charm of smaller businesses.

Thanks for your replies, I'm loving the Racing Beat REV8 catback exhaust system, looks and sounds very nice.

I also just bought an RX8 and the guy had already had some catback exhaust on it. I love the sound of it and have been commented on it. The guy said it was some high-performance japanese made exhaust. The name of it is Espelir.

What do you guys think of Magnaflow SS Catback Exhaust system? So far it has been awesome in my other cars. I just don't know how it sounds with the 8.

Espelir aren't very common. Good find.

I'm sure there is a video on youtube or something showing the sound of a Magnaflow catback on the 8.
