I have a stock GT2554R and im planning to put it into my Protege soon, I pulled out all the parts and was trying to assemble them to check what else I need when i noticed that the wastegate does not fully close when I push it. Is this normal?... will it change shape when its hot to fully seal the outlet? I can post pics to explain better if required...

Can you post a photo if it's not a stock WGA? I'm assuming it's a stock one.. Can you blow into the little vacuum line? That's the main thing you should check..

It is the stock wastegate... and i don't mean the actuator, i mean the actual w/g itself, the circular door that is next to the exhaust outlet from the turbine side

Bump... Anybody... if not can anybody post pics of the exhaust outlet part and the wastegate please... thanks in advance..

It definately should be shut all the way. Make sure the wg bracket is attached correctly and the compressor housing and wg arm is at the right angle.

So this should be fully shut?... what can i do if its not??

There is no reason it shouldn't be shut and also have some pre-load on it. Is the wga holding air? If so I would say its not positioned right. Post a pic of the wga and bracket in relation the the comp housing. You can add washers to space the bracket further away but a stock set-up shouldn't need that done. The stock wga arm doesn't have threads for adjustment I don't think does it?

well i don't have the WGA on it, the guy who sold it to me sent it disassembled. Ill post a pic of it when i get home, but when i manually try to shut the gate, it does not go all the way!!... (dunno) and i am totally freakin out right now!!

The wastegate is not sitting right. It should hold the internal door completely closed so no air escapes there until it needs too. Try to readjust the waste gate so it is closing the door shut.

If that does not work, order a new bracket from the dealership.

It would not have been such a problem if the actuator or the bracket was what is busted, the wastegate itself, free of the actuator does not shut!... Looks like my only option is to order a new turbine housing, cos all the parts of the w/g itself are riveted and there seems to be no way to replace it... Any suggestions otherwise?...

it is improperly aligned... you need to fix the assembly to make sure its all lined up. the flap in interfering with its seat.

Its a guessing game unless you get some pictures. We know the door is not fully closed, so we need pictures to find out why not. Something is not sitting where it is supposed to.

I will get more pictures up this evening soon as i get out of school... Anything specific you want to look at?... I'll try getting all angles. I tried figuring out what is preventing it from closing and I saw that the door seems to be touching the turbine housing near the top. Ill show you when i get the pics up.
