Ford Falcon Coyote V8 spy photos

Ford Performance Vehicles has been spied testing what will be the newest addition to its V8 entourage.
FPV’s current 5.4-litre BOSS V8 is set to be axed in July 2010. FPV spokesman Dave Harding told CarAdvice, “the current BOSS won’t meet Euro IV”, with Ford Australia spokeswoman Sinead McAlary further adding, “FPV has a number of exciting engine advancements to talk about next year but we aren’t providing any further detail at this stage.”

While Ford isn’t willing to officially talk about new engines, CarAdvice can confirm that the new V8, which carries the ‘Coyote’ codename, will be similar to the engine currently being developed for the 2010 Ford Mustang.
Reports from the US suggest the 5.0-litre V8 engine is set to produce some 298kW and over 540Nm of torque. Tweaked variants of the engine (some featuring a 5.8-litre capacity) are said to produce a further 50kW.

The vehicle photographed by Pavle.com.au is fitted with a front car-bra, following on from FPV General Manager, Rod Barrett’s recent statement to the media, “it will be evolution, not revolution, for us next year”. “It’s no secret that we need to change the aesthetics of our car – it has been a few years since we did so.”
In addition to the car-bra, the photographs reveal quad exhaust pipes, replacing Ford’s current dual pipe arrangement.

These photographs come after CarAdvice the exclusive photographs released by CarAdvice earlier this year, picturing a supercharged variant of the Coyote V8.

2010 FPV GT supercharged V8 Coyote spied!

A deafening whine made the ears of our spy photographer prick up, that deafening whine was the sound of a supercharged V8 Falcon.
Before the car scurried off into the distance, our photographer was able to snap some shots of what could possibly be Fords latest attempt at slaying Holdens HSV offerings.
With over 60 per cent of FPV sales leaning toward the V8 engine, FPV has been desperately in need of an engine capable of taking on the ever expanding offerings from HSV.

Up until now, Ford havent attempted to do anything too serious to the current 5.4-litre BOSS V8. The reason behind the delay is the impending Euro4 emissions cut-over, due on July 1 next year. The current BOSS V8 will not meet the Euro4 standards, meaning there is little point doing any further work on it.
Instead, insiders have told CarAdvice that Ford Australia will use a US-sourced 5.0-litre V8. Featuring 32-valves and an aluminium block, the engine will be significantly lighter than the current offering.
The best news of all though is that we believe FPV is strapping a supercharger to the engine to give it the extra kick in the pants needed.
Although Ford are being very cagey about the work on the new engine, our spy photographer says that this thing was fast, very fast. It accelerated from a standing start not far from where he was and he said that not only was the supercharger whine loud, the acceleration was phenomenal.
As you can see from the photographs, a small section of the car-bra has a large intake for the supercharger.
FPV General Manager, Rod Barrett indicated in a previous press conference that FPV would assemble the engine locally much like the current BOSS arrangement. This would give FPV, which has codenamed its project Miami, the perfect chance to attach a supercharger to really get things moving.
We can expect the upcoming GT to give the HSV Clubsport and GTS a decent run for its money. The engine, code named Coyote, should produce at least 300kW. From there, the supercharger should help it bring power and torque up to HSV beating levels.

The Coyote is the NA V8. Rumor has it the codename for the TT (or S/C) version of a 5.0 is the Road Runner.

so... how much does it cost to legaly import one? Then how much does it cost to illegaly import one and get away with it?

jesus...wtf would we need 625hp for? next GT500? wait would it be GT600 then?

those auzzies are crazy ya know. 500+WHP in a car that weighs 3800lbs(which is 120+lbs lighter than a GT500) will eat everything...

Well, there's a lot of talk about the 2014 Mustang and what is slated to happen. Apparently, it'll go back to the Cobra name, not the GT500, since Shelby's name will be dropping off the car after their contract runs out. Right now, if the Z28 comes out and the updated Hemi makes it into the Challenger, then 580-625hp might be the new norm for hi-po pony cars.

And then there's the rumors of a 5.8 or 6.2 getting shoehorned into a Mustang....sheesh!

me too... me too.. the new taurus isn't bad, but the falcon is so much sexier.

Now would be the perfect time too; GM is axing the G8, nobody else has a great RWD sedan with some sporty DNA, and Ford is looking good in the general public's eye by not taking bailout money...I just don't know where it would fit into their product plan.

that's the problem. since they've dumped so much money into the new taurus, they probably wouldn't bother with the falcon. the taurus already satisfies the full size market. the falcon would do nothing but steal its thunder.

I mean, I know I'd take a falcon over the SHO any day. Especially with a proper manual tranny. And don't get me started on the FPV's (hump)

Im wif dis guy... the falcon would decimate the taurus in the full size market. I'm going to go out ona limb here too and say the ecoboost might be a more tuner friendly engine as well.. chip and go for gobbs of power and little cash.

Plus, at the end of the day, the Taurus is built in the US, keeping shipping costs down and US workers on the job, which is something that we can all be happy about.

They could bring it in, sell it as a more upscale vehicle (Mercury maybe?) and do a light rebadge on it. It would have to be priced upwards of the SHO, but only offer it in a limited trim option. Not really sure what the costs would be with that.

a mercury version would be neat.

slam a beefy engine in it and call it the marauder :)

how much more can it cost? the SHO is already a $40 grand car, which although you do get alot from an enthusist perspective is asking alot form the public. $50-60grand mercury? that's top of the line corvette money and *almost* z06 territory. Although lets face it, it could keep up with the regular vette

Exactly the next problem I see. I think it'd have to be $50k to be in the right spot, and Mercury isn't slated to sell that kind of car. Had the Taurus been smaller and cheaper, it might have fit as a high end performance sedan.

Even still, if you brought over strictly the FPV, rebadged it as an SVT Falcon, and sold it for $45K+, I think it would sell.

Great car but I would still rather have a BMW. Yea I am a snob. I say Ford should build the Falcon here as a competitor to the Cadillac CTS-V, Merc E63 AMG, Audi S6/RS6, Lexus GS-F, BMW M5.

SNOB!

J/K

Actually, what you said is a good idea. Would you still brand it a Ford or upscale it to a Lincoln?

see the problem is that although it does have *massive* amounts of grunt, when you put it up against a 500+HP V10 M5, the detuned ZR-1 CTS-V or Twin turbo V12 in the RS6 things get weird(and these are established cars, what happens when they get a refresh a year later?), the Falcon is great, but I wouldn't say it's *that* great. It's certinaly good enough to best an S6 or 550I though. I think what you suggested sounds better, dump the Boss N/A version, only bring in the TT/ or S/C edition, make it a limited run and price it at just under Z06 money. You can only expect to sell <10000 units anyway.
