REPORT: Chevrolet Cruze SS being pushed for hard by company insiders

Anyone who buys a GM or Dodge post bailout money = dead to me

Why do you say that? As an American tax payer you should WANT people to buy their cars. We just gave them billions of dollars. I damn sure don't want it to all be for nothing. Not only that, but this anti american auto maker deal is almost comical. Chevy and Ford both put out vehicles that are as good if not better then imports. They also have a better warranty. How many Honda's or Mazda's come with 100k mile warranty? I could see it if they were not trying to change their tone, but GM is making improvements in everything from design to materials.

The Cobalt SS got a decent makeover compared to the standard one, so give it a non-ricey air kit, a decent set of 18in wheels, projector headlamps, a kick-ass engine and a subtle aggressive grill and it should be on business

it's because we're never going to see a penny of that money back...

I'll buy a ford, but GM and Chrysler need to die in a fire

Still going to be typical GM trash at the end of the day. I have hope that if they expand the SS line again, that they do it right, not slapping them on every vehicle with a bigger engine & bigger wheels like they had done up until they dropped that.

The Cruze is an ugly car IMO. It's a mini-Malibu, and the styling doesn't quite carry over. The rear end is awful, and the interior (especially the two-tone) looks like ass. I don't know what they'd do when they slap the SS model on it, but it would have to be on par with the MS3, GTI, and WRX to even stand a chance of competing in the market.

Isn't Ford one of the, if not THE only automotive manufacturer coming out on top currently in overall sales and revenue? I gotta find that article....but it was in Motortrend or something....

I believe of the big 3 they are.

yea I thought so....so well there you go LOL....

If the next generation Focus spawns an RS or ST (which I've heard we will be getting from my sources), then the Cruze SS is destined to fail. I'm still waiting to hear how the chassis fares compared to the Cobalt, but I don't have very high expectations for it.

I'm not holding my breath LOL

I know that Ford is working on a few turbo variants of the motors for the next gen Focus, and from the actual documents I've seen, it sounds increasingly likely we'll see the RS. It may not be identical to the Euro one, but we'll get it as an SVT model.

SO it'll be an SVT model, hopefully it will look VERY similar to the Euro RS.

Yep, if you look around, there's an article somewhere that RS and SVT were merging to some degree. SVT's role has changed since a while ago, since they're helping to tune some of the standard trims, not build strictly performance vehicles.

Yeah, Cobalts are ugly as sin, but in all fairness the last Cobalt SS coupe/sedan was more than a big engine and bigger wheels, that thing could handle and accelerate (i.e. updated suspension), even tested at the Nuerburgring with very good numbers

The Cobalt SS Turbo has dethroned the all mighty MS3 in one or two magazine comparos.

The Cobalt rides on an old chassis though, which killed it. Sure, the short wheelbase was good for handling, but the total package was definitely lacking. I do give GM credit for having more aftermarket OEM support than Mazda. You can get the GMPP Stage kits which make the car even faster.

The Delta chassis was introduced in 2003 with the Saturn Ion. Followed by the Opel/Vauxhall Astra and then the Opel Zafira minvan, Chevy Cobalt, Pontiac Pursuit/G4/G5, and the Chevy HHR.

The Cruze and Astra are on a updated Delta II chassis. Atleast GM has been updating the Delta chassis unlike Ford with the C1 chassis that the US Focus has been riding on since 1998 with very little updates.
