Camber Adjustment

I wanted to get a set of K-Mac front camber plates so I could adjust the camber in the front for better tire wear and handling. I also wanted to adjust it in the rear. Is the camber adjustable in the rear stock or do I have to buy an adjustable rear camber arm?

Thanks

As Wastegate said, there is no independent camber adjustment in the rear.

If you don't mind humoring my curiousity, what is your camber now and what do you want to change it to? Are you on the stock suspension?

You'll need arms for the rear. You won't get any additional negative camber with the SPC pieces though.

Actually, I think that they advertise somewhere around +5/-1 degrees of adjustment with the SPC pieces...

That's what they advertise but I just installed mine on Saturday and at their shortest they are the same length as the stock camber arms. I had more than enough camber in the rear though so I adjusted mine out.

Good to know. (thumb)

Honestly, I don't know why anyone would ever really want to add negative camber to the rear of this car (at least from a vehicle dynamics/handling perspective). The car has more than enough at even stock ride height...

I have to call shenanigans on that. I have the SPC links and had to extend them a little to be equal with stock length. It doesn't matter though you don't want any more negative camber in the rear anyways lol. I was at like -2.5 on my coilovers before I adjusted it hahaha.

I have the stock suspension, stock alignment right now. I'm looking to go about -1.5 in the front and -0.75 in the rear.

I agree that you wouldn't want to add more to the back, but you would still want to adjust it. The ratio between the back and front is what matters. From talking to people who have driven many cars on many suspension setups, they recommend twice the angle in the front as in the back. If you were to adjust the front to fit this ratio while leaving the stock angle in the back, you'd probably have traction issues in a straight line.

You can get close to -1.5 up front if you loosen the 3 bolts for the suspension underneath the hood and push them as far towards the middle as much as you can and tighten them.

At my ride height on BC's I was able to get -1.8 this way. That was before I lowered them down more this past weekend. I pulled them out some because I was getting some camber wear on the inside of my Potenzas.

That's why I asked...it wasn't clear from your first post exactly what your intentions were, and when you used the phrase "for better tire wear and handling" I wasn't sure if you meant that the outside edges of your tires were currently wearing too quickly (which is my problem when tracking the car) or the insides were wearing too quickly...If it had been the latter problem, I was going to point out that adjusting the camber to improve such wear wasn't likely to improve handling. ;)

And FYI, you might actually find with this car that shooting for more of a 3:2 front/rear camber ratio (rather than a 2:1 ratio) is enough for excellent rotation (due to the SLA "Control Blade" rear setup) without introducing high-speed instability/twitchiness on the track. I found that to be the sweet spot on my Focuses (which utilizes the same sort of setup) for a car that is still street driven. For a strictly AutoX setup, 2:1 might be better...

im dropped on mazdaspeed coilovers and im getting uneven camber. the left rear sits a lot flusher than the right rear and both sides are lowered the same amount of threads. its bugging the HELL outta me...is it normal to have one side with more camber even if the two springs are adjusted to the same height?

I'm on BC's but I had a similar experience. My drivers side had almost .5 degrees more negative camber than the passenger side.
