Uneven tire wear with non-stock size?

Hey now

Something rather disturbing I noticed when rotating my tires. The inside edge of the fronts (both left and right) was worn down to the cords, and had much more wear than the rest of the tire. Admittedly, I did not rotate them when I should have, and let them get down to basically almost bald. Tires were Azenis 615s, 225/40-18. I'll post some pics when I get home.

Question is, has anybody else noticed this type of wear, whether on stock or non-stock rims/tire size?

I did not notice this problem with the stock tires. I am thinking this is possibly due to going to a slightly wider tire than stock, and am considering going back to stock size for my next set.

Nope haven't noticed this. Maybe when you had your tires mounted they didn't balance/mount them on properly.

You should not have any issues from that tire size. How many miles on them? As you said "I did not rotate them" that's a first cause of premature tire wear, what tire pressure are you running? Do you check the tire pressure regularly? How's your alignment? These are all things you should be doing/checking to keep your tires in good shape for as long as possible. I've run Azenis on another car and got 20k miles out of them with rotation every 5k miles. Rotate every oil change and you'll be able to squeeze a lot more miles out of your tires.

Balance won't make 'em wear on the inside. I'd suspect it's nearly impossible these days to mount a tire improperly (in relation to the wheel). The diameter of that tire is about 1/2" smaller than stock, so the difference is negligible.

This is an alignment problem, compounded by a too-long rotation interval.
