CPE Rear motor mount install question

I installed my CPE motor mount roughly 3 months ago and have been really happy with it. About 2 weeks ago the car started making a quick clunk every time I reversed, and then again when going forward after the reverse.

I took the mount and the bracket that goes onto the engine off and noticed that the joint between the mount and the bracket was really stiff. I could move the pieces, but it was hard.

Thinking that I had torqued the bolt and nut on the mount too far (~70lbs) I loosened it up a bit to when the two parts would move freely. After reinstalling the mount, the clunking sound is gone, but now the mount seems sloppy on take off.

Does anyone have any insight into how much the bolt and nut between the mount and the engine bracket should tightened? Should the two parts move freely, or should the engine bracket piece be really tight in the motor mount?

Thanks!

I have a TRZ mount. From what i gather, factory mount is usually around 80-85lbs. When i did my trz, i torqued to 80 but ive been getting heavy vibrations when engine braking and between shifts. I think all i can do is try between 70 and 85lbs to see what works best.

Try and stay within 65-85lbs is my advice.

Maybe someone can help us both a bit better.

noticing a clunking noise also. I have the cpe rear mount installed. My Tranny mount bolt was loose, that helped out with the noises but still get it now and then, especially in first gear when accellerating/decelerating. Sounds like it's coming from the rear mount. I've read that this may be a normal thing? Mines torqued to 75 lbs. Also read that it could be loose suspension bolts. Definately check your tranny mount bolt, as mine was fixed during the safety 'recall' but loosened up on me.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I got under the car again last night and torqued the bolt between the mount and the engine bracket to 85 pounds using a torque wrench. All clunking noises stopped completely. No clunks on starts, and nothing during shifting.

There is definitely some cabin vibrations at idle when the AC kicks on, but those were there from the get go.

I'm guessing that the bolt and nut loosened up a bit after the initial install. The instructions state that you are supposed to retorque things after a couple of days. I did all the bolts to the engine and to the car body, but not the one between the bracket and the mount.
