Great N/A Mods for the MP3

MP3Night

MS3,Mazda3,MSP
I'm trying to look around and find some N/A mods to put on my MP3 just not really sure what would be the best. Any suggestions? and even the smallest mods would be great.

Start off with an intake set up. preferably a cold air intake or short ram intake set up. Next on the list should be the exhaust. The exhaust can be upgraded as three sections. The header, mid-pipe, then the cat back portion. The header is the best bang for your buck as in performance.

If you still want to continue to mod, then more advance things come into play. As in intake manifold, tune, flywheel, pulleys, high compression pistons, etc.

Also do not forget about the supension. The MP3 has a good suspension stock, so it depends how far you want to take it.

jdm rods and pistons from japan for the fsde motor, can be found for mx6, probe , mx3, 626. they have a 10:1 compression. 626 intake mani, millenia pcv valve, header back exhaust, (not ebay junk) cams, and cam gears, , all the pullies from crank to alt, power steering, and a cold air intake, plus you can chip it if ya want making some good power. i may do the same to my mx6 once my msp is done.!

stock ECU is essentially "chipped".

best bang for your buck is going to be intake, exhaust and cams/cam gears. Those mods alone are capable of 170+ hp when timed and tuned correctly. most of the rest of those mods listed will net MINIMAL gains unless you're building a race engine. nitrous is an option...
or you can boost. (WIN!)

Now were on to something, thats pretty much how far I would like to go before boost. I was going to get the Greddy SP2 exhaust. plus I'm in need of doing a engine rebuild and I'll be doing forged internals with that, Probably going to start a thread when that begins. Any good suggestions on cams/cam gears brand wise?

going forged is pointless unless you plan on spraying, or boosting at some point in the future.
Yeah I said I was going to boost, that's why I'm going to rebuild with forged internals. I was just really curious what really good N/A mods would be to get good gains.

yes you can buy a jspec engine for cheap and they have a higher compression piston in them

isnt the fs-ze an obd1? wouldnt that make it little harder

edit: and if i remember correctly, those ecu's are hard as hell to find i read

putting an FS-ZE into a domestic protege requires a TON of work. the FS-ZE also generates more power due to their intake manifold.

the 626 intake mani will give you more top-end, but you'll lose the bottom end you have
as far as cams, if you can find some 'twiggy sticks' on the forum, those are VERY nice. i know protegegarage.com has some from integral cams...and there's always the cheaper jdm cams.
if you can find a 4-2-1 header, i'd jump on that...but an obx 4-1 will be cheaper and easier to find.
my old mp3 had an injen cai, obx header, catless with a side-exit exhaust, twiggy cams, 1.8L coils, UR underdrive pulley, awr front motor mount, eibach sportlines and a cp racing 3-pt strut bar.
i enjoyed that car more than i do my msp...but i had to see one or the other and the mp3, being cheaper, sold first.
if you're going to boost in the future, the higher compression pistons won't be a good idea.

why does everyone enjoy their mp3 so much more than their msp lol

it just handled amazingly...and with the exhaust set-up and cams, the sound at idle was incredible. i had a guy at a red light turn his truck off so he could hear my mp3 idle.

i'll have to +1 to that.. handling in my mp3 was so much more fun :(

must be that steering rack
