2010 MS3 has a spin-on oil filter!

So yesterday I was crabbing about the silly cartridge setup and how the car was too low to get on ramps... Today I gave it another go and jacked the car up with a jack, then slid the ramps underneath the front tires. I crawled underneath the car and noticed TWO awesome things!
1. The 2010 MS3's have a spin-on oil filter!!! It appears that they use a similiar "conversion" piece to the one Protege Garage sells, stock! I posted the part number in another thread I think, but I never put two and two together that it was a spin-on part number. The Purolator number is L10241. Common filter part #!
2. There is a triangular piece cut into the plastic under-body aero-plate that sits EXACTLY where it should to be able to get to the filter. Unlike the previous gen where it was slightly offset.

Happy Days! But now I have to go exchange my cartridge filter...

I wonder if '10 undertray would work with the previous gen MS3. Glad to see you got things worked out.

i'd have to think no since they changed the bumper shape, etc. but i guess if one had an extra one to stick under there to check it might be worth it. i still think it's unlikely however

thanks for the REdiscovery.... everyone else who owns a 2010 already knows this

I know I certainly did. Everyone at the real 2010 forum (what I refer to as "the refugee camp") knows about it too.

I bet they don't. :D
I know what you're implying. If you're trying to get rid of the 2010 owners on this board, keep up the good work. No one is stopping you.

Huh??? That's not what I meant at all, lol. Take it easy there. You can't tell me everyone that owns a '10 MS3 has conveniently looked under the car and realized they don't have the cartridge filter. If anything, I was taking a stab at TheMAN just for s**** and giggles. Y SO SRS?!?

Sorry if that's not what you meant. I get pretty sour about all the 2010 hating on this site and don't post much as a result. Hopefully you can see how I misinterpreted your comment.

I do, and it's just everyone's opinions about the new 3. Some may hate it, yes, but everyone's entitled to their opinion. Personally, I think it's a great car. I drive them for work all the time. Have yet to drive the new Speed 3, but our Mazda store just took delivery of one, so maybe soon. The smiley isn't my cup of tea at all, but I can get over it thanks to the rest of the car.

I can verify the 2010 3S HB has a spin-on oil filter, oil filter access w/o removing protective pan, and is easliy accessed by driving up on most standard ramps....as well as easily accessed OEM horn and 2004-09 rubber floor mats and cargo tray fit just fine.....

There are only two kinds of people with regard to the 2010 3's.
1. Those who own one.
2. Those who don't own one but wish they did.

#2 are the folks that hate. (2thumbs)

F'ing A Nathan!!! That was news to me. I am glad this came to light, sorry you had to go through the ringer to find it, but thanks.

Didn't they change the position of the motor in the 2nd gen to center it in the engine bay vs 1st gen is offset somewhat. So that would make that plastic underskirt (lack of a better friggin word), useless for the 1st gen guys. Why dont the 1st gen dude take that plastic guard out and get a jigsaw and make a small access hole to get to the filter element. Take it off the car 1st (remember thats key). Just a suggestion.

And for the love of god will people stop talking about the 2nd gen smilling face, us who own them could start talking about the 1st gens big ass, but we don't. Ya"ll be good
