Any photographers in here?

hahah I'm assuming you mean it in a positive way : / Well You've got to know how to use that shizzle man. I've known a lot of photographers with fancy cameras who don't know how to manipulate their light correctly or use the appropriate lenses and color correction or white balance. and I've seen some bad ass photographers use crappy ancient cameras and produce some of the most beautiful work ever! I'm working at it still not where I want to be but I think I'm getting there ; ) I'm shooting at New York Fashion week in a couple of weeks and I'm super pumped!!

haha It's waaaaay more then 10K in gear! But guess what I'm STILL paying all that s*** off!! hahaha business loans are a necessity! AND I have studio Rent and electricity!!

^ I just fell into stress and depression again! Damn these hard economic Times!! to ALL designers and Companies, Stop cutting your MARKETING BUDGETS!!!! SPEND MORE ON ADVERTISING AND HIRE ME!!! I dont want to keep shooting still life product anymore!! hahaha

i was gonna post some pics, but this thread has quickly gone out of my league... ah, who am I kidding it's always been out of my league.. here are some recent shots. I'm playing with DoF, trying out different focal lengths and practicing.

nice pics, they are exactly what photography is all about! Try getting the fastest lens you can find (F2.8 to F1.2) so you can really achieve that milky beautiful Bokeh! You'll love it! and if you really want to get technical use a little bit of flash powered down a few stops just to fill in a bit of the shadows. I guess that's the technical side but if shadowy is what you're going for then have at it my good man! cute little girl too!

Don't be afraid to use fill flash.

As far as portraits, DOF, shooting at the longer focal lengths will create more separation between your subject and the background.

LaPiqure - I totally meant my comment in a very complimentary manner. Very nice photos. I merely meant that with a good photographer, the right equipment can be used to capture some amazing moments.

On the other hand, a mediocre photographer with mediocre equipment can only do the best he can... Such as use flood lights from a house:

^ That is actually not a bad picture. The White Balance is right so it looks like you might have even used some Arri Fresnel hot lights with diffusion on that car! It was well executed given what you had to work with : ) If only that Dark spot towards the front drivers side was not there it would be a perfect image. The light would have had to been even. I have some crazy shoots coming up that I should be posting up on here! And I have an underwater shoot coming up soon also!

Was playing around with the Fractalius plugin for pshop

Thanks a bunch! I didn't even notice the dead spot on the drivers door. If I would have I would have adjusted one of the lights a little, but its really the first time I've tried to use external light sources at night, so I look at it as a learning point.

Thanks for the tips and compliments!

No problem man, learning is what it's all about. Here is an image from a recent session with a lovely model From Brazil.

Is it bad that I looked to see what type of guitar it was first? I know its a Gibson, just couldn't figure out the model of it. She's hot too... (hand)

lol the guitar was the only thing I cared about in that photo... weird lighting and a weird looking model...
